Since being diagnosed last November type 2 I have been on metformin 500mg 2 times a day and always take at the same times in morning and evening, however yesterday due to being late going out I was probably 6 hours late taking my morning pill with lunch as I missed breakfast . Took my levels about 90 minutes later as I felt a bit odd and it was 3.4 my lowest ever and was showing as red arrow on my tester as an alert. Admittedly I have put on about a stone over the last three months due to being naughty on holiday after my initial 3 stone weight loss after diagnosis. Can this low reading be from missing the meal and taking dose late or is it a worrying start to something worse. Your opinions would be welcome

Hi GIB,first, metformin is not that effective it's used to help stimulate the production of insulin yes it helps but not that much,i would recommend washing your hands a and taking another reading,i suspect you probably experienced a " false" hypo this can happen when our body is still adjusting to lower levels of food and glucose being available to it.
Are you lchf? Try and keep nice and steady using slow steady adjustments to your food intake ,i find that portion control and eating to my meter is the key, let us know how your going on and good luck, clive

Not Lchf - have managed to maintain almost constant levels since initial weight loss after diagnosis but probably lulled myself into a false sense of security and admittedly abused my body while on holiday and put some weight back on. Was just worried that it could be the start of something worrying- took level again an hour later and had raised to 6.0
