Hi Lynnyherts
I don't have answers and others will be along who know more. But I just thought I'd say hi as it's a while since you posted and no one has replied. I expect they'll say tell us what you eat and we'll see if we can help! It's hard isn't it? But I'm pretty certain you'll find some help here as so many people have so much experience. Good luck!

Hi lynnyherts - What do you do to manage your carbohydrate intake? Have you tried that?

Best Wishes - John

Hi again Lyn,

It's a little bit difficult for me to advise you sensibly because I'm a non-insulin depependent Type 2 on metformin medication only. Because of that I've no chance of having a serious hypo. Therefore I can just cut down on carbohydrate and that leads to my blood glucose levels reducing - normalising in my case. I hope to keep away from having to use insulin forever but don't know whether that will be a possibility. Certainly, I hope to be able to stay free of any diabetic complications - I haven't any that I'm aware of at present.

Because you are injecting insulin then it's more difficult for you. As I understand things, in your case, you have to balance your carbohydrate intake with the insulin injection. I'm certain that someone else will explain much better than I can.

Best wishes - John

Hi Lyn,

One of our members (Fergus, who is also a type-1) wrote a very good guide to reducing carbohydrates that you might find useful to read. Here's a link to it.
