Type 2
I have type 2 diabetes which has given me psorrosis of the liver. Have lost 4 stone, but have been the same for a year now, the diabetic nurse says that if I can loose another 3 stone then I could be diabetic free. I am having an awful time with my diet, as I need a low fat low sugar diet. She told me that porridge and skimmed milk has too much sugar. It seems whatever I eat is wrong, please can I have some advise on what I can eat?

Hey @Nannynobbs, congrats on your weight loss and having kept it off! Have a look around the threads related to low carb eating - it's not a diet, but way of eating for life - and see if this might be something you would consider doing.....keeping a food log is key as it is pretty easy for carbs to slip in if we aren't diligent...Once you get used to the lower carb intake, you may want to consider intermittent fasting, like 16 hour fasting with an 8 hour window for eating....many of us use the 16 hour fasting to include sleep time so it doesn't seem like really fasting. You haven't mentioned if you are on any meds or just diet controlled....your body maybe needs a kick start to get losing again. All the best/L

Why do you need to go low fat?
We need to have fat and protein - without them we can become rather ill.
On a low carb diet eating far more calories than many 'weight reducing' diets I lose weight easily - I do not release insulin which is the fat storage hormone so there is no mechanism for weight gain. It is as though some of the calories become negative, anticalories, which wipe out an equal number of calories from my diet - unless, of course the calories in calories out mantra is wrong.
