Hola Merrylizard1314
that is a perfect set of results. You are in what volek and phinney call optimum ketosis. I think you'll like their book the art and science of low carbohydrate performance and I know they have a presentation on you tube which I will find and post for you later.

Optimum ketosis is 0.5 to 3.0 and this is when the body is most efficient at burning fat. If you go up to 5 then you are in starvation al ketosis and need to intro a few more carbs. Both are safe but there is no advantage in going over 3.

Double ketone figures and high bloods/unstable bloods are a warning to t1 diabetics of keto acidosis which is another story altogether and a very dangerous state to be in.

As a t2 it is more than very unlikely that you would ever be in that state. There has historically been some confusion between the 2 which is why people are a bit wary when you mention you are in ketosis.

I was reading a blog the other day where some guy could predict his ketone level by his food Diary and blood reading as he had blood tested his keytones in the past. I will try and find the link for you.

I have been perplexed why my ketone levels have barely registered recently and why my fasting numbers have been up. I think I found the answer in that I started extra supplement in some vit c effervescent just before the marathon and for the week and a half since. On closer inspection of the ingredients sorbitol and a whole list of other unspellable stuff I reckon this is what's been spiking me. Time will tell!

7.5!! It's down from 8.7 yesterday!! Had porridge with apple and sultanas for breakfast. See if be down in 2 hours!
That's a lot of carbs and sugar... it would send me rocketing up, not down...

5.1 am, after 5.6 last night.... reducing proteins and dairy products a bit, increasing avocado and garlic.... a lot... couple of evening walks over the last couple of nights.... all helps.... be interesting to see where this goes.
That's brilliant... what you're doing makes a lot of sense, no? I'll try it when I get home...

5.6 when I woke up, 20 minutes later upto 7.7 oh dear!
Your liver dumped you some sugar to kick-start your day I expect... irritating, isn't it? The guys on here discuss eating liver and onions... don't think it frightened their livers though...

Thank you from me too for this info.... I will research it more... interesting... is it ketone testing strips that you have to ask the pharmacy for?

Good news!! Just tested, 3 hours after, and it's down to 6.3!! Tried after 1 hour and it was 12.1!! So one on my 'can have' list. Happy now

I'm glad you're happy, but 12.1 is still a huge spike... sorry to be a wet-blanket...

I bought an optimum neo on ebay for £10 and have found a reasonably priced pharmacy in australia for the strips (again via ebay). But yes there are a few meters that test both - opted for the neo as can get the strips at a reasonable price and can be used as a backup blood glucose meter to.

This is a good article http://www.dietdoctor.com/lose-weight-by-achieving-optimal-ketosis

and here is the chart I mentioned I would find for @Merrylizard1314

6.9 this morning. Yesterday was a busy day, spending lots of time driving and sitting and not eating much. Could this be my liver trying to help me along? Going to eat better and more regularly today.
