You should pull your employer up on that under "discrimination" Diabetes is covered under the discrimination act - I do believe. Also a government organisation should know better - especially the NHS!At work (NHS...) first question was if I need insulin, and since the reply was, no, I have to sort of sneak out to eat, check my bloods and take my meds.
They should take us more seriously, because without SMBG most T2s wil end up worse with a check only every 6 months.

That's what they told me on the DESMOND course I attended - "Monitoring is key" especially Blood Glucose Monitoring! I certainly couldn't agree more!

Sadly, the old wisdom of "there's no such thing as free soup" proved true, again:-(Hmmmmmm not impressed just seen an advert on tv for diabetes offering free advice, duly phoned the free phone num, gave some details then the question about donating money on a mthly basis came up, as I already donate to a charity each month I declined, now you would think that would have been sufficient for the conversation to move on, nope I got asked again twice, each time with a lower amount to donate, sadly I ended the conversation so hopefully they will listen to the alleged recording and perhaps improve on their customer service and more importantly stop badgering people!

6.1 fasting purely as a result of attending the Diabetes UK Folkestone talk last night which cost me £100 to attend! Let me explain.....
Went along as it was advertised as having a specialist diabetes dietitian giving a talk. Squeaked a bit when the first slide went up - She's a NHS dietician. Head sank involuntarily when the eat well plate came up.Blah blah blah blah blah. Seemingly the questions I asked her were too technical (hadn't even got on to nuts yet - this was about tomatoes). Coffee break. Chap next to me says I don't drink tea or coffee would you like to join me at the bar.
I have a huge bet (£100) that I wasn't going to drink this month so I knew the consequences. But then again I had lost an hour of my life that I would never get back. Having the breaking strain of a soggy kit kat I am now £100 lighter and 1.7 mmol higher on my fasting reading (that's not attributable to the wine at the bar but bottle of wine (17.5g carbs per bottle - there is no point in measuring it in any smaller quantity) and big bag of salt and vinegar peanuts (4.9 carbs per 100g not bad not bad) from sainsbury's bought on the way home both of which are now no more RIP). So entirely my own fault for pigging out.
Overall take home from the meeting.....there is a lack of education about diabetes in the UK and I don't mean ND/LCHF/Berstein/Eating to your meter etc etc Vs Eat well plate. It's even prior to this. The story of most people there was shockingly similar (we'll leave it at the T2s rather than T1s).... You have diabetes take these pills and come back in 6 months, reduce the amount of sugar you have and try to have wholemeal pasta instead of 'white'.

How true,and how grateful we are for this forumTo say I'm thankful, finding this site so soon after diagnosis , is but an understatement.
So many diabetic are slowly increasing the possibility of diabetic complications.
All because they are religiously following the advice given by the so called professionals, without researching and educating themselves about our condition....
