Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

 :D This is my face this morning after getting a 5.5. I was decently lower than usual all day yesterday, so I was hoping for a slightly better reading this morning, but that's the lowest for years!

Good morning all. I had a 6.9 fasting reading this morning after a 7.1 bedtime one last night. That's higher than my recent fasting readings but I had a deliberate blowout last night when I ate out and had a breaded haddock, chips and salad.

I was 5.5 before the meal and went as high as 9.3 an hour later and 9.4 after 2 hours! I won't be doing that again - especially not today when I'm having lunch out with friends. Hopefully, the menu will have something more suitable for me and I'll make a decent choice.

Good morning all. 5.4 fasting reading this morning after a 8.1 bedtime seems like insulin pen working

Just after moaning I never had below 6.0, two hours after breakfast I had 5.5:-)
Could it be the swimming in between?
Yay:-D

Moshe, you may be able to help yourself by ditching the potatoes.
Thank you Pasha, I agree, and besides, I'm not really a potatoes person:-P
Just bought some Genius breads from Tesco, I'm curious how am I going to react.
What I definitely noticed is that eggs seem to be of a beneficial effect.

6.1 fasting purely as a result of attending the Diabetes UK Folkestone talk last night which cost me £100 to attend! Let me explain.....

Went along as it was advertised as having a specialist diabetes dietitian giving a talk. Squeaked a bit when the first slide went up - She's a NHS dietician. Head sank involuntarily when the eat well plate came up.Blah blah blah blah blah. Seemingly the questions I asked her were too technical (hadn't even got on to nuts yet - this was about tomatoes). Coffee break. Chap next to me says I don't drink tea or coffee would you like to join me at the bar.

I have a huge bet (£100) that I wasn't going to drink this month so I knew the consequences. But then again I had lost an hour of my life that I would never get back. Having the breaking strain of a soggy kit kat I am now £100 lighter and 1.7 mmol higher on my fasting reading (that's not attributable to the wine at the bar but bottle of wine (17.5g carbs per bottle - there is no point in measuring it in any smaller quantity) and big bag of salt and vinegar peanuts (4.9 carbs per 100g not bad not bad) from sainsbury's bought on the way home both of which are now no more RIP). So entirely my own fault for pigging out.

Overall take home from the meeting.....there is a lack of education about diabetes in the UK and I don't mean ND/LCHF/Berstein/Eating to your meter etc etc Vs Eat well plate. It's even prior to this. The story of most people there was shockingly similar (we'll leave it at the T2s rather than T1s).... You have diabetes take these pills and come back in 6 months, reduce the amount of sugar you have and try to have wholemeal pasta instead of 'white'.

Gott sie danke Le internet.

That's just how I felt when I was forced to attend Slimming World - it was like a Peter Kay sketch.

Did you not tackle the silly woman (I don't mean rugby style) about how much more fun things are on the dark [low carb] side? I would have embarrassed myself probably. Sorry it came at such a high price. Maybe you should sue her for driving you to it.

I must agree, as after being diagnosed with T2, my former surgery treated me like "yeah, well, that's it...".My meeting with DN was fairly short, she did the feet check & all, but not much after. As about diet, I had to rely on Das Internet, struggling to understand why I have spikes over 10 after eating bread at each meal. I bought my own BGM and strips in order to learn the tricks, just to be told that since I am not insulin depending, no prescription...
At work (NHS...) first question was if I need insulin, and since the reply was, no, I have to sort of sneak out to eat, check my bloods and take my meds.
They should take us more seriously, because without SMBG most T2s wil end up worse with a check only every 6 months.
But I'm glad to have found you guys, you seem to be a true, caring family:-D

Do you think it was the salad? ;) It may have been the Salad Dressing! :wideyed:

I'll get me coat! :banghead:

I know what you mean but it's not her fault. I am sure that she is full of good intentions but I am not her paymaster. NICE guidelines, though not nice, are NICE guidelines. They aren't for me but I'm not going to push what I do on others. I hope that doesn't sound patronising to anyone - it certainly isn't intended too. I just feel that it is a shame that they are missing out on what shall we call it - an 'alternative approach'.

Anyhow forget all that rubbish I sprouted earlier - I have just found the real culprit. Empty Kit Kat wrapper in the bin hidden under the S&V peanuts!
