Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

High (for me) fasting BG of 7.1 at 9 am - a couple of hours after waking up. I spent the intervening time on text and email celebrating the overnight birth of my new grand-nephew! :D Even the BG levels can't spoil my mood today!
Congratulations Larissima xx

They are indeed!

This morning:
Blood Glucose 5.5 mmol / L
Blood Ketones 0.4 mmol / L

Before bed:
Blood Glucose 3.9 mmol / L
Blood Ketones 0.2 mmol / L

Bed just before midnight.. Early start today!

Woke once during the night feeling anxious with Blood Glucose 5.2 mmol / L - obviously stress related.

@Baruney @Merrylizard1314 happy for fat fast start on Monday 3rd August?
Yep let's go with the third.

What are we measuring:

Blood Sugars
Blood Ketones
Weight
Calories
Macro % Fat, Protein, Carb
Mental Health
Energy levels
Blood Pressure?
Any others?

And where do you want to post - last one was on T2 but could be on a different one if you wish.

Sounds good to me.

I was considering whether we should start a thread for the fat fast and invite others to join in? We could pre-empt with preparatory discussion - like what we're aiming for and proposing meal choices, etc

Good list of measurements - I can't do blood pressure and my health is always mental!

Can't think of anything to add.

This morning I had a fasting blood glucose of 7.1. I am trending upwards and feeling anxious as I need to work harder at exercise and possibly even more diet restriction to get in a safer zone to avoid Metformin and/or Insulin when I get reevaluated for a new A1C test in September. Even my blood pressure is unsafe again. I feel that the murky gene pool I'm stuck swimming in has a lot of contamination rising to the surface that I may not be able to control as I get older.

Hi Type2Guy, your anxious care for your diet in order to maintain control of your BG levels is absolutely understandable. Nevertheless, if you do a bit of research about Metformin, you'll see that it is one of the safest, best researched and well known medicines for many, many decades, with benefits clearly outweighing side effects. Further research is being carried out which seems to show that patients taking Metformin might get other protective health benefits from it. I've been taking it since March as Slow Release version, at maximum alowed dose because my levels didn't move down as expected, and together with another medicine, plus a strict diet, I manage to keep my levels at an average of 5/6 and a significant loss of weight which I couldn't even dream about before. I have my A1c test this Friday, hoping to reduce both Metformin and the other med.
I'm sure your consultant could offer you a care plan which would suit your desire to control your diabetes with a bit of help from meds like Metformin;-)
All the best:-)

Type2 guy,

Dont be discouraged, you need strong nerves and lots of patience. Progress can be slow by day but over the months you will see improved results. Just getting used to the needed portion sizes is a test all by itself. Managing the macronutrients also takes a while until you work out what you can and cannot tolerate, we are all different, very different. Stay resolved, everybody here is behind you and will offer all the support they can. Best wishes.

Moshe, It is incredibly helpful to read your measured words on Metformin as my insecurities with the knowledge of its side effects has me feeling quite uneasy. All I imagine with the notion of taking it is (forgive the visual) suffering from explosive d... and never being able to leave my home, let alone the bathroom for that matter, which maybe wouldn't be such a bad thing as I'd get in more comic book reading, but the requirement to connect with society and to earn a living in order to maintain it all is still a top priority.

I also feel this enormous sense of loss in my ability to gain control, which is both wounding and scary. Since diagnosis, I feel like I've acquired an eating disorder, ironically the inverse of how I had been eating previously, which was so much more disordered than now, and it is a very awkward thing to take in, especially in situations that involve menus beyond my planning. I also worry about too much weight loss as I don't have much more to lose. I lost 13 pounds (not sure of the stone measurement) in three weeks and my doctor and the diabetes educator both felt encouraged but that any more pounds shed would not be beneficial. This is another reason why I want to avoid taking Metformin as it does fuel weight loss. And on a really petty note, I also cannot afford to purchase any more new clothing as eating right is absurdly more expensive than eating wrong and I don't want to look like the guy in a weight loss advertisement who shows off the old baggy trousers full time because there wasn't enough money in the budget to do a final makeover.

I am rooting for you that you should have good results on your A1C test and will be able to get control in the best way possible.

It is so helpful to read your wise words and feel supported through this journey on which I have no real choice but to take. Portion control is a tricky thing, but I suppose I've mastered harder in my life thus far.

Oh dear! A rather higher than usual 6.4 this morning. Definitely because of the Bran Flakes in milk with sliced Strawberries I had for supper last night. Perhaps half the portion size next time. We live n learn I guess. Have a lovely Afternoon & evening folks. Good health. X

Well @Baruney....I DO have some uploads showing stereotype perceptions of the difference between Type 1's & Type 2's. But I must admit, I don't wanna start a riot...and I'm too chicken to post em. CLUCK CLUCK!!!! Stop encouraging me to be naughty, you rebel you. Lol. X
You be as naughty as you like girl ;)

Looks like you have already!

I didn't do BP in my FF but it was something that @Merrylizard1314 said had improved for her.

Weight if I recall I did before - at the end (5 days) usual Monday weigh in and then 1 week after to see how much I had gained after returning to norm LCHF - though that wasn't the case and as you know got into a bit of difficulty with the carb police.

So looking forward to a more planned entry this time round and just as importantly a planned exit!

You don't need to mention your mental health - we know!
