Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

I think you guys are all great and I get so much support from reading these posts and exchanging experiences and ideas. So, please everyone, keep posting and keep debating. I learn something new EVERY time I read this forum. For example, I had no idea that there was such a thing as almond milk, let alone unsweetened almond milk. I have been labouring under the misapprehension that the little drop of semi-skimmed milk in my tea/coffee would have no effect at all on my readings! Duh!! You might have read from another thread that I have a new set of battles to deal with, so I need you all! I say things here that I would never say face to face at home with family and friends - it is a safe place to explore our fears about our diabetes and the impact it can have on all aspects of our lives. So Kim, I need you and so does everyone else. Debate is fun!

Suffice to say a misunderstanding on both parts. If you read my original post in reaction to yours, you will have realised I was quite angry, as as far as I was concerned, neither myself, nor peacetrain were criticizing people with lower levels than ourselves. I withdrew my post as it was a kneejerk reaction and, as per for me, way over the top. I then chose to like your post in order to hopefully, defuse the situation.

I'd like to reiterate that there was no need for you to defend your position, we were not having a "go".

4.0 this morning.

We ate out, later than normal yesterday. I had probably the best liver, in a creamy sauce, I have ever eaten. I went to bed at 3.7, and woke with a bit of a shadowy headache. Perhaps the glass of Malbec had a part to play in that.

Had a snack before bedtime and got up to 6.7

Hi Linda,
Where can I find info on Prof Taylor re Personal Thresholds, I have been type 2 for 4years now and struggle to get readings below 7 first thing in the morning. I play golf four times a week but other than that no general exercise.
Thanks
Barry

Sorry AndBreathe, meant to ask you for info on Prof Taylor, not too skilled on the forum bit yet, but enjoying the inputs from everyone.

There has been lots of discussion on this, as you might imagine, on here. If you search on here for "prof Taylor fat threshold", you will return lots of results. Sometimes the debate is healthily lively.

There is also this lecture: http://www.fend-lectures.org/index.php?menu=view&id=94, which is well worth a watch.

On a broader note, if you would like to look up others approaches to their fasting levels, there has also been a lot about that too. For me, that level came down, without too much additional effort, once my general levels moderated, but it does cause anxiety for many posters.

There is some great information on this forum, and a real variety of approach to this condition, so I hope you get something meaningful, out of the site.

I meant that was my last word on that particular matter. I've a mountain of words left for the forum as a whole. ;-)

I eat lots of almonds, Brazils and hazelnuts. Cheese too.

When I first came to this site I read somewhere that it wasn't advisable to snack so I really have tried not to. The odd time I have felt light headed before bed, then I've had a small snack.

Not snacking means I have some wonderful mixtures at meal times. I eat my snacks at meal times lol!

For instance, I had quorn sausage and vegetable stir fry this evening for my main course. I ate my first course whilst I was cooking that: green olives, cheese and almonds. For desert I had 20g of 85% dark chocolate. I love to nibble whilst cooking. It makes me think I'm naughty without actually being naughty!

Of course I don't have much of a clue but would it make a difference if you had your snack with your evening meal?

I'm not that bothered about the snack, it was just that someone said a snack at bedtime seemed to help their fasting level next morning, and I was just trying it out.

I was 6.2 at waking yesterday, but climbed to 8.1 (quite a stressful am) at which point I went for a 1 mile walk and it dropped to 5.4

This morning was 6.7 and stayed quite level which is new behaviour. Went for the walk dropped to 4.4. Then had low carb tea - honest - and it spiked to 8.4. I retested immediately and it was still 7.4!

Just so weird.

I do think my average has gone up a bit since coming off metformin. I think I am going to restart those on Sunday.

One of the things Metformin helps with is the liver dump. Logically, your morning fasting levels should improve on Metformin.

Gordon, I've also had a weird day following my 6.7 this morning. I had breakfast of yoghurt and some berries, then around 2 had a 45 minute walk, following which I was 5.2. Had lunch of some olives, houmous, salami, tomato and cheese. At +1 I was 7.3 (average of 2). Did 10 minutes on rower and BG dropped to 5.0. At 7.30 before dinner it was up to 6.2 again. Dinner was chicken and salad, with berries & cream. At +1 it was still 6.2, did another 10 minutes on rower and went to 5.8, then at +2 it was back to 7.0!

I'm wondering if my liver hasn't got used to my exercise and assumes I am needing continuous glucose which it provides if I don't keep eating. Should I exercise at the same times each day for the same durations? Would my liver learn or does it just need a slap?

Waiting for tomorrow's fasting reading with excitement/interest/trepidation (delete whichever does not apply).

6.8

Annoyed!

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

my levels over the last week have all been in my normal range of 4.6 to 5.2 depending on the amount of protein consumed the previous day (generally in the form of packets of peanuts ).
