Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Well everyone seems to loose weight but I have gained 4 kilos although I am still ok in terms of bmi but really worried about it, I tend to gain weight very quickly hence the reason I Always used to avoid any fried things or butter or full fat milk and stuff
I have my bloods in about 15 days time and will know my cholesterol levels too then but i am on statins anyways.

Just want to know one thing What does metformin actually do
I was told by diabetic nurse that it does not really reduce your sugars and doc said you dont need to check everyday as metformin will reduce your sugars

Metformin reduces insulin resistance, appetite, and the production of glucose from the liver, but all to a limited extent. It does very little to reduce blood sugars.

Brettza, are you calorie counting? In my view it is essential to count calories as well as carbs if you want to lose weight. You may be eating too many calories from your fats/proteins. To maintain weight you need to consume just enough calories to cover the ones lost through carb reduction.

Those of you that have tested during the night, have you had a liver dump during the night that has mysteriously disappeared by morning?

Went to bed on 5.7
2hrs later (bathroom visit) 6.6
7am (bathroom visit) 6.2
9am (got up) 5.7

This is either down to meter discrepancies (possible) or a liver dump. I am always more or less flat from bedtime to getting up and was surprised to see this rise and fall in between times. If it was a liver dump, why would it come down again? Confused

I wonder whether some things that you eat might be taking longer to digest and causing your levels to rise while asleep? Then fall again, as they would throughout the day, after not eating, by the time you get up?
I'm pretty much flat from going to bed and getting up in the morning, unless I eat later than 6pm or I have food that's harder to digest.
Just a thought.;)

I know protein can convert to glucose after several hours, if not longer. I wonder if it was that? I had a total of 37g (approx.) of protein with my meal at 7pm.

I think so. I think it's where your unexplained highs are coming from, the fact that they're happening long after you've eaten when you're not testing.

Could be, but although these were higher than before bed and after bed, they were not up in the high 7's and 8's, which is what would have been needed to give me the average my A1c gave. However, I'll keep doing more random tests to see what happens.

I dont know but I think i gained all this weight while i was travelling in like 15 days as i was having too much bread there pizzas and pastas as I did not have option, I was constant on 71 72 before I went there came back at 75 76 and now staying there since I have come back
If i think roughly my calories at the moment is about 1000 and 80g of carbs at the max side it will be less than that for sure but I am overestimating just to be on a safer side.

On appetite I dont think it has done anything to reduce it as I am mostly hungry two hours after my meal as I am mostly having salads and boiled veggies.
Fish is not an option for me as I can not even think of having it. I tried but once was enough to put me off it for good.

5.6 at a very shameful 11.15- I was awake but couldn't face getting up as I'd read till after 1.

Uh, oh. You're chasing me!!

Great numbers Kim. When are you next due to see your nurse/doc, or have bloods done?
I have my 3 month HBa1c all booked for 22nd October- I'm hoping for a fairly good drop on this one, my last in July was 6 weeks post diagnosis and because I'd really got into lchf I had a drop then, will be interesting to say the least, must ring the surgery to see if I should book a follow up with the diabetic nurse re the results!!

Well....just rang surgery, was told by one receptionist to wait until the day I go in for hbA1c to book appointment with nurse- ok, that could then be three weeks wait!! I rang back and spoke to a different lady who said no it would be wise to book now!! (My thinking too!) I'm now booked in to see my DN 5 days after my test!! Hooorah!!

3.9 for me again today. So, all is good in the Breathe household.

Other than that, today is a bit frustrating. The manufacturer has now agreed that the netowrk component I have been struggling ith is defective, so they will replace it under warranty. To arrange that I have to log onto the website, which will neither recognise my credentials nor reset my password. Oh well, it looks like another call to Amsterdam shortly. But, at least I'm reassured I haven't turned into the techno-numpty I was beginning to feel struggling with the drive.

Today's activity, aside from a bit of business networking, and domestic networking of a completely different nature, I will be making catch-up calls. It's my OH's daughter's birthday today, so I'll be pleased to catch up with her and find out what her "kids" have done for her birthday. They're lovely young people and always make a big fuss of their mother's birthday, by really treating her like royalty and baking her cakes etc. I also have to catch up with a friend whose partner has had a hip replacement, but suffered some unexpected, non-orthopaedic complications and they're struggling. It's been a sobering reminder that sometimes even routine type surgery can hit or develop "bumps in the road". Over time, it is hoped he should be fine, so we're crossing fingers, but, naturally, they're feeling a bit shell-shocked.

For this evening's dinner, I am considering the roasted brain (cauli) as side dish, if I can be bothered to pop out for fresh cauli. I can't see frozen being a success for that one, somehow!

play nicely boys and girls. The sun is shining, and there's much to be thankful for. :)

5.8 this morning, liver must be over the Channel now, levels getting back to 'normal'. Quite a bit of walking today and pre dinner was 4.6, so tomorrow morning should be interesting.

4.3 getting to like these figures, let's see how long they last have a good dat everyone, off to work now.

4.8 for me today - here I go getting used to seeing 4 and not 5 (this game gets addictive!!) Had a disturbed night so expected 5's, but I did have two squares of cheese at bedtime again with my options drink (shot of cream again too) so it obviously keeps the fairies happy!
Back to work today- thinking of my dad who's birthday it would have been, lost him very suddenly ten years ago at just 67, my absolute hero (ex gren guard and firefighter), rock and best friend- so proud to be his daughter x x
