Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

I've found that some main meals followed immediately by desert WILL spike me for sure. Either, by themselves, will NOT. Verified by testing with a 2 hour gap I can have both as sort-of part of same meal......
An observation rather than recommendation - still need to watch those calories too - I'm still 13 stone but not doing VLCHF

Is this because when you have a dessert immediately following a meal it extends the time taken to eat the meal, therefore when you test at 2 hours from your first bite, it may be quite a bit less than 2 hours before your first bite of dessert - hence the spike, because a fast acting dessert will spike earlier than 2 hours. Testing the dessert as a meal on its own at 2 hours you maybe missing the spike as you may be on your way down.

Had a Waitrose Chef's Special curry last night - saffron chicken and aubergine masala, both labelled at a tad over 5g/100g carbs. Very nice too, went from 5.3 to 5.5 after 2 hours, including my usual berries and cream, some red wine and a bit of 100% chocolate.

This morning I was 5.4 (average of 4.8/5.8/5.5).

Thanks @Bluetit1802, that's a possibility I hadn't thought of re the two together.
Re the desert alone at two hours even if I 'have' missed an earlier spike it means it's a short acting one and within 'normal' range/tolerances. Testing it earlier though would help confirm or not the two meal scenario though wouldn't it :)

I put two tablespoons of it into 1 oz of cheese and could not taste it as I thought the same as you....but on another forum they going on about one should not try these things when on insulin how are we going to know if things work if we do not try them I ask????
Precisely!! ;)

7.2 mmol/l. Can't complain lol.
We going for cricket scores then:D:D
6.8 for me which after 2 hours shot up to 9.2. I tried hiding a piece of toast under the 2 eggs hoping that if it wasn't seen it wouldn't register on the B S reading.:D

Morning

4.2 this morning. Was 4.9 after dinner last night. Pleased with that seeing as I was working late into the night and then from early this morning so sleep was very patchy.

Morning troops...yawn, lazy bones, had bonus lay in. Good morning Contour207 lol

5.5 today. I am getting used to seeing the higher readings on the CodeFree and can resist the impulse to retest with my other meter. The CodeFree consistently reads .5 to 1.0 higher, but it could be the more accurate one.

I have had morning readings between 5.2 and 5.7 over the last several days. The 5.2 followed an evening when I went completely off the rails with two chocolate biscuits and a bowl of some sort of sweet coated pretzel mix. The 5.7 was after a virtuous evening with only a moderate piece of blue cheese for a snack.

.

I find the same when cross checking with my Accu chek mobile. I've put the Accu chek away again now, experiments completed. I will stick to the Codefree because I would rather see the higher readings than be led in to a false sense of security with the Accu Chek.

can you calibrate your accucheck with a solution BT ?

5.0 after my belated morning walk....just over 4 miles in 1 hour....breakfast of fried egg, half a tin of beans,...half a tin of plum tomatoes and a slice of Hi-LO hi fibre hi protein low carb bread...

No. The control solution simply checks the mechanics of the meter are as stated. It doesn't calibrate it if it is inaccurate. It works the same way as the control solution for the Codefree, and probably other meters.
