Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

It'll be easy. You'll tell them you're all fine and healthy. They'll tell you to eat, or not eat, drink or not drink before the procedure, then remind you when your appointment is.

Good luck with it. When is the main event, and are you going to ask if they can see anything in terms of visceral fat around your liver and any other organs? I'd be planning a bit of a charm offensive to try to get lots of lovely peripheral information. The sonographer, or whatever he/she is will be thrilled to have an engaged patient, I hope.

Well the telephone assessment lasted all of 30 seconds! I was offered an appointment this Thursday morning which I had to decline as I have a client meeting booked, so I accepted next Monday morning and was told that the ultrasound scan will be done at our local Nuffield hospital.

I shall definitely be an engaged patient, @AndBreathe!

5.8 this morning (average of 5.4, 5.7, 6.5). I seldom get daytime readings in the 4s, they just seem to flatline in the 5s and low 6s after eating. I'm not drinking enough water though.

Your 3 readings sound as widely different as my re-tests at the moment. I'm sick of it. The other day I had a 4, a 5 and a 6 in consecutive readings.

Flatlining in the 5's with 6's after eating is very good. You are like me, you have naturally sweet blood ;)

Still really shaky this morning so going to have a nice eggy breakfast. Didn't test as I was so scared - nit had one as bad for ages so all I can blame is the diet coke and I'd a,so had a pot of normal, tea while waiting for friends. You live and learn. Going to just potter today and hopefully calm down a bit. Thanks x

Have a nice relaxing day. An eggy breakfast is lovely. Hope you feel better soon. x

Do you not have your own glucose monitor?

Nope - as I said on another forum although I met the DN for the first time yesterday I was in and out in 5 minutes. There was no discussion of self-monitoring, just a bit about diet and losing weight. She also tested my blood pressure. I wasn't even weighed (although I was weighed last week by the doc). I see the DN in a month and my next blood test is scheduled for April next year. I will get regular (six monthly) retinal screening though as this is what prompted things in the first place.

Sounds fairly typical. Are you intending to buy your own meter? I would strongly advise you to.

Thanks Jan... I've tried to eat when I get up, but I really cant stomach food at 6:30am...I tried having a snack before I left for work, but this didn't help either, I've also tried eating my breakfast on the way to work - but then my head thinks its not had any breakfast lol I cant win at the moment:bigtears:
Can you nibble nuts on the way to work ??

21.8 on waking up. Slice of brown toast, cup of tea, meds & back to bed as feel awful! Retested 2 hours later, 17.7!! Hoping for a lower reading later. Dam thing!!!

I think you need to try a different breakfast.
Bread, cereals and porridge are too carby a choice for most of us.

Try greek yogurt (not the low fat nonsense, or anything sweetened) add berries if you like.
Or a slice of ham
Or eggs
or bacon...

See what a difference it makes. :)

(although I did just notice that your reading went DOWN, from 21 to 17, so maybe it wasn't such a bad brekkie for you, after all!)_

Maybe. As I'm on a very low calorie, low carbohydrate (around 30g or less per day), diet at present (please correct me if I am mistaken) it's unlikely that I will be vulnerable to any spikes. I will see the DN again just before Christmas and will discuss the topic of self-monitoring then. Christmas will be interesting as I am likely to relax the diet then if my weight loss (which is going very well) remains on target. I'm still intending to limit my calories to 2500 per day (currently 700 calories) and so aiming not to gain weight over Christmas, but I guess the acid test is my system's response to meals and the odd helping of Christmas pudding and custard! So a blood glucose tester may be on my Christmas present list. After New Year I intend to resume my strict diet until I get under a BMI of 22. The plan then is to relax the diet to around 2000 calories day for modest continuing weight loss until I get to a BMI of 21. That should be before my birthday in March and just before my next doctor's appointment. If the Newcastle-style regime is going to work I should know by then.

Honestly for the moment I would ditch the bread. Its pure sugar for my levels
I mentioned what I ate during the day one day on the forum and members advised me to throw the bread out, I did. Levels are almost the same but I am happy I am not eating unwanted carbs atleast. My carbs in a day are about 30 grams a day but my problem is I am gaining weight a bit and I just cant cut anything off my diet else I will faint and collapse one day :)

Mine are 8.4 to 12.9 which is worrying me. I have a cold so maybe that is why it has risen. I am still on only 500g of Metformin which will be doubled I believe next week. Hopefully, it lowers soon. Please can anybody tell me how they felt when their meds were upped. Did you feel physically better?
