Type two - did i have a hypo?

Hello, Just looking for advice really. Ive been type two for about 5 years. Got very ill, diagnosed and I've been low carbing ever since. When i was first diagnosed i tested myself religiously and got down to consistent scores of 6-7. I do recall when i was first diagnosed i would sweat a lot. in particular around my neck and chest. This happened a lot when id walk to work from the train station and it'd take a while to cool down. These ceased to be an issue when i got my type 2 under control.

Recently I've started getting the sweats again and yesterday after eating lunch (i had a lot of roast beef and broccoli so wouldn't think it was too carby but i did have a lot of beef), then afterwards i became dizzy and confused and had to go home. I've had tinitus ever since too and don't feel too chipper. Ive tested myself and have 3 scores of 9.8, 8 and 8.2.

My question is - did i somehow have a hypo at work or is my recent uplift in numbers enough to make me feel ill?

i am under pressure at work right now and have been drinking more wine than i think i should at weekends - although not in the week.

Any assistance appreciated.

It sounds more like high blood sugars than a hypo with those readings, which look to be on their way down if there were time gaps between the 3 tests.

Are you on any diabetes medication?

Of course, it could be nothing to do with your blood sugars. It could be one of many other things.

Have you had your BP taken lately? Especially under stressful times?

If you at a LOT of beef it could have been stressing your body digesting it all especially if it was fatty.

Just thoughts.....

Information as to what diabetic medication if any you take would help the knowledgeable T2's on the forum to give advice along side what has already been posted.

thanks for the info so far folks. i take one metformin 500 and one simvastatin

Metformin is not a drug that normally causes hypos, and especially such a low dose as you take. The Simvastatin is for lowering cholesterol, nothing to do with diabetes. I find it highly unlikely it was a hypo that you experienced.

I have always found that I am overly sensitive to alcohol, possibly as part of the general lack of balance in my metabolism.
As you are under stress as well, you might be wiser getting out into the fresh air for some gentle exercise as an antidote rather than drinking wine - particularly if the weather continues to be hot.
I also feel better rising early, going out in the morning, and not staying up late - making the most of the day light. All part of looking after myself.

Feeling dizzy and light headed, along with tinnitus, suggests you could have an ear problem. Maybe wax or an infection. These are common symptoms. If I were you I would go to the GP.

When i was first diagnosed and until BS were under control I used to get gustatory sweating ( ie facial sweating when eating) not had it since BS has been under control
Your tinnitus and higher BS readings would lead me to also query an ear infection - more common for us diabetics apparently. Stress and infection can both have an independent effect of raising blood sugars

I had labrynthitis once, and the symptoms sound very close to what you had. I was told by my GP at the time that it usually begins with one "crashingly dizzy" episode, so as others have suggested, does sound a bit inner-ear like.

Hi all. Well it just seems like my sugars have got quite a lot higher. Started testing again and getting scores like 9, 10,12 as opposed to the 5's and 6's i used to get. Decided to agree to docs request for another metformin. Hopefully it'll do the trick an get the numbers down. I'm still low carbing but seems like just small amounts are sending my sugars up these days.

How low carbing are you? Do you count your carbs? It is soooooooo easy to carb creep without noticing when you aren't testing.

Try going back to basics. Count your carbs, keep a food diary including portion sizes and snacks, test before and after and record your levels alongside. It is a bit of a faff, but if needs must, and it may just be the answer to your problem.
