Hi All, I have just joined the forum for some much needed advice please.
Firstly I'll introduce myself. I'm 36 years old and have been a type 1 diabetic for 11 years. Currently on 3 novorapid a day and 1 levemir injection a day.

A few weeks ago I was admitted into hospital with a large abscess and was put on iv antibiotics. My sugar levels were all over the place due to the infection. Ranging from 3.2 - 17.8. I was put on lots of different antibiotics and sent home.

Since being home I have felt very tired and just generally felt unwell. My sugar levels haven't really settled down and I had my hba1c tested last week. It is 82! Much too high I know.
On Tuesday this week I had to go back to the GP with a uti and was given more antibiotics. These haven't worked unfortunately and the infection is still there after I saw a private GP today. She has prescribed different antibiotics and has sent off a sample of urine to the lab. She was very concerned as the test also showed large amounts +4 of sugar in my urine. I am also have been sweating lots and she has said this is due to my diabetes. The sweating has been going on for months now, well before the abscess.

I have been referred to the diabetic clinic at my local hospital as at present my GP has always looked after my diabetes. I am wondering if I need to change the insulin I am on or am not giving myself enough levemir at night?

The glands in my groin area are swollen and the GP has said this is due to my diabetes being out of control and my body is not fighting off infections.

I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on this as I'm very concerned at the moment. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome @Rubizzalf I'm going to move this to Type 1 for,you so you can get some answers.

Infection will put your sugars up, and high sugars can make you more prone to illness and infection. It's a vicious circle.

At least you've been revered to a diabetes clinic now and will hopefully get help to control your blood sugar and fight off these infections. It must be miserable for, you.

Hello @Rubizzalf and welcome to the forum. :)
I'm sorry you're feeling unwell, but now that you've got an appointment at the diabetes clinic you will get a proper diagnosis of your health problems and can look forward to feeling much better. You need more help to regulate your blood sugar. When is your appointment?

Thank you @lizdeluz. I am still really suffering from this uti. They are horrible :(
I haven't heard from the clinic yet but am going to call them on Monday as I feel that I need to be seen asap.
My blood sugars are still running high which to me may be to do with the infection.

Hi, Rubi, (Just guessing at a name!)
Yes, I know from experience how ill a uti will make you feel. I agree that you need help quickly, so telephoning the clinic on Monday is the thing to do, and make sure they know you can't wait. Let us know how you get on with the call. Fingers crossed you get your appointment very soon.
