Hi All, I have just joined the forum for some much needed advice please.
Firstly I'll introduce myself. I'm 36 years old and have been a type 1 diabetic for 11 years. Currently on 3 novorapid a day and 1 levemir injection a day.
A few weeks ago I was admitted into hospital with a large abscess and was put on iv antibiotics. My sugar levels were all over the place due to the infection. Ranging from 3.2 - 17.8. I was put on lots of different antibiotics and sent home.
Since being home I have felt very tired and just generally felt unwell. My sugar levels haven't really settled down and I had my hba1c tested last week. It is 82! Much too high I know.
On Tuesday this week I had to go back to the GP with a uti and was given more antibiotics. These haven't worked unfortunately and the infection is still there after I saw a private GP today. She has prescribed different antibiotics and has sent off a sample of urine to the lab. She was very concerned as the test also showed large amounts +4 of sugar in my urine. I am also have been sweating lots and she has said this is due to my diabetes. The sweating has been going on for months now, well before the abscess.
I have been referred to the diabetic clinic at my local hospital as at present my GP has always looked after my diabetes. I am wondering if I need to change the insulin I am on or am not giving myself enough levemir at night?
The glands in my groin area are swollen and the GP has said this is due to my diabetes being out of control and my body is not fighting off infections.
I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on this as I'm very concerned at the moment. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
