Hello all i was diagnosed with type 1 3 months ago and put on 70/30 novomix. For first few months everything was going ok and my insulin doseage was dropping by the week. But for last few weeks i have been feeling unwell with light head dizzy spells aches and pains and worst of all loads of hypos. So for last week my insulin intake has been 2dose in morning and 2dose in evening but have still been going low so i seen my dn today and she looked at my bs diary and then promply went to see consultant on her return she told me that they looked at my blood test results and they dont know what type i am.So now they have stopped my insulin and told me to monitor bs levels. So now i just have to wait and see what happens dont get me wrong i am happy to be off insulin even if it is temporary but i just wanna know what type i am.Thx for reading all the best to everyone.
cheers

They can do a C-petide or GAD test to help determine your type...

But I am suprised that they haven't told you that your lowering of the insulin could be due to the honeymoon period which is likely at 3 months you are still in..

Normally when a T1 is diagonised they still have some ability to produce some insulin but not enough to support blood glucose control.. And when insulin is injected this actually gives the pancreas a rest, and also it can supress the aummune attack the pancreas is suffering..

So inject insulin is very low level and it's not unheard of for some newly diagnoised diabetics to actually come off insulin for a short period of time before finally having to return to for good when they start to come out of the honeymoon period!

So I suggest keep a very tight eye on your blood glucose levels just incase the above it what is happening to you, a short stint without the need of insulin support

I do agree with jopar about it possibly being a honeymoon period whilst your body is getting used to the changes. I am very surprised that the dsn didnt consider that first and then work out what to do.

Please make sure you do keep a close check on your blood sugar levels and if it changes in anyway please contact your dsn.

Keep safe

Thx for your input jopar and josie its much appreciated dont worry im gonna keep a close eye on things and my dn is gonna keep in touch by phone on a day by day basis.I guess i should enjoy being normal for a while :D i know theres a good chance i could go back on insulin as you say but at the clinic they were leaning more towards type2 without comitting themselves anyways guess im gonna have to play the waiting game.I will let you know the outcome when i know whats going on.
thx again
