Hi,

I've noticed that I can keep by blood glucose low by eating smaller meals. Also, it seems to be irrelevant if the meals are high carb, or low carb, or high protein, or disproportionately high in veggies, as long as the *amount* is small. So basically a normal meal (that non-diabetics would eat) is sufficient for maintaining a good blood sugar level, as long as it is half the portion. I don't find I am very hungry and i think the Metformin has helped me with that.

Any comments on this method would be appreciated.

Cheers

Most of my carb reduction comes from eating smaller portions Erin, less food = less carbs. although there are some carbs that I try to avoid or eat very small portions of.

A lot depends on your levels of insulin resistance and pancreatic function though as not everyone can control their diabetes like this for some there is no alternative than to use increased medication or a very low carb diet or both.

Testing is the only way to find out though and to avoid those high spikes in bg levels.

Thanks for your feedback Sid. Yes, i have read that with time i can probably expect insuline resistance, as diabetes is a progressive disease. I don't know in how many years, but in x years i will have to take a higher dose of anti-diabetic drugs.

I try to be stoical about it all -- there are so many people suffering from more serious and unmanageable diseases.

If your blood glucose control is good and you'll happy with this then carry on it's suiting you...

There's no right way or wrong way really, the two important factors is that yes you are obtaining good blood gluocse control and that you are able to enjoy and stick to the changes made..

Hi jopar,

I am paying attention to a balanced meal, cutting out salt (for blood pressure management) and basically eating smaller meals with innocuous snacks in between. Sometimes my numbers are high but on the whole, the average is now 6.1 in the last 3 months, which is much better than when i started. Live and learn.

Your sig is mysterious. :-)
