I imagine others of you may have already received this email, but in case not I reproduce it below. Your chance to comment on the UK Clinical Trials Gateway , which reports on trials re diabetes among other things.
Dear Colleague, I hope this finds you well. I wondered if you might be interested in this survey. It is not diabetes specific, but concerns a web-based system that offers people information about research going on in the UK. The UK Clinical Trials Gateway has been developed by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) as a system for people looking for studies in which they might like to participate. It has been developed during a series of initiatives, led by successive governments keen to encourage participation in research. The information it contains is searchable, and comes directly from the NIHR database of studies. At present, the information that comes through may be below standard and the ability to search for something of interest may not be quite right in its present format. With this in mind, we have been campaigning for this public-facing research database to be reviewed by patients, carers and family members to ensure it is fit for purpose. Simon Denegri, the Chair of INVOLVE and the newly-appointed National Director for Public Participation and Engagement in Research, has taken this up and coordinated a survey to encourage public feedback that will influence the next stage of the system’s development. He sits on the committee that will further develop this system, and (as you will see below) there are opportunities to join a user group to help further. For those of you using a “smartphone”, there is a free UKCTG app (search for Clinical Trials Gateway), although the survey focuses on the web-based system. If you are interested in this, please take a look at the system and survey via the links below. If you are reasonably familiar with the system (and there is no reason why you should be as this has not yet been widely promoted), the survey will take approx 15-20mins. If you want to explore and familiarise yourself with the system first, obviously that is likely to take a little longer. Please feel free to share with others that may be interested. And if you have already received this email from me, or from another source, please accept my apologies and ignore this message. With thanks and best wishes, Martin ----------------------Martin Lodemore

Dear Friend, What do you think of the new UK Clinical Trials Gateway (UKCTG)? Please tell us by completing this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XK7NTBB Access to clear information about clinical trials is essential if we wish to see greater numbers of people take part in research in the future. The UK Clinical Trials Gateway (UKCTG) http://www.ukctg.nihr.ac.uk/default.aspx was launched at the end of last year. Its ambition is to provide accessible information to the public about clinical trials relevant to their condition, and which they may be able to participate in.
There is much scope to improve and strengthen the website and the information it provides, and we wish to do this based on the feedback you and others can provide. I am therefore writing to ask if you would: - complete the survey- send the survey link to fellow patients and colleagues to complete as well- draw attention to the survey if you have access to your own website or social media such as twitter The survey also provides people with an opportunity to join a 'user panel.' This panel will be an important partner in the development of the site from a patient perspective. It will also be an important source of advice to me as NIHR National Director for Public Participation and Engagement in Research in thinking through how we can better meet the needs of people when it comes to digital health information about research.
Thank you in advance for doing the survey and helping us out. The survey will close at the end of Tuesday 31st July 2012.
Best wishes,
Simon Denegri
