Hi. I don't come here often.
But I have a huge medical history and am on numerous medications.
My T2 doesn't behave like T2, and I have horrendous stomach issues that I am under consultants for, but the medication and what I have to eat for my stomach doesn't agree with my Diabetes and vice versa.
Anyway, my brother moved to Australia with his Australian wife and family in August and I have been asked to go visit him for all of February next year (28 days).
This will become a regular thing.
I am currently using Humalin I and Metformin, but have so many other medications including CPAP that they will be with me as Hand Luggage.
From London Gatwick to Perth in Australia is will take 26 hours, first flight 11hrs, second flight 15 hours.
What would be the best way to store my Insulin for this period of time?
I know once open the pens can stay at room temp for 28 days, so could I take one dose from all of the 4 pens I plan to take, then store then in something like a Frio, or do I need to keep them properly cool and unopened.
My concern is that when I land in Perth it will be 30°c or more as it is the height of their summer, so in no way will it be room temperature until I can get the pens into my brothers' fridge, which thankfully is only about 20 minutes from the Airport.
I flew to Italy when I was using a different Insulin but that was a 3 hour flight and we had a fridge.
Thankyou

The pens are fine for a month at least at room temperature, there is no need to use them first!
I'd simply use a Frio to take all my pens/penfills on the trip, and I'd store them in the brothers fridge while there and only have the pen in use in the Frio.

If you use prefilled pens at the moment it might be worth asking for reusable pens instead, a penfill takes up much less space than complete pens, both in your fridge and in a Frio.

Thanks.
I am more concerned about keeping them at the correct temperature for the 26 hours it is going to take me travelling on the two planes, and how best to do this.
I'm not worried about the space, agent has already pre warned Emirates about the amount of medication I need, and will be needing to take during the flight to keep me on time.

There is room temp and there is changing temps from winter in UK to mid summer the other side of the world. My worry is spoiling it and not being able to replace it.

No problem if you keep it in your Frio and make sure it's exposed to air when temperatures get close to 30 °C.
The plane won't get this hot so no issue.
Winter in the UK may be fridge temperature, but in a Frio the change is not more than going from fridge to room in summer, or even from day to night on some spring or autumn days where nights may be close to freezing but days or a heated room can be well into the 20's.

Really, the Frio will keep your insulin safe for at least a month!
