Ulcer?

I am not sure if anybody can answer this but I am hoping...
Does anybody know what an ulcer looks like?
I have a place on one of my toes that looks as if a pair of shoes has been rubbing, red and a little raised but barely. It isn't sore and nothing has actually been rubbing on it.
I have been keeping my eye on it for about ten days but nothing is changing. Naturally I am thinking the worst and would be grateful if anybody could tell me whether this is what the beginnings of an ulcer looks like.
Thanks for any replies.

Janie

p.s. I appreciate that nobody can make a diagnosis without an actual medical examination but I am wondering about this...

Hi,

In my experience, ulcers can take various forms when they are beginning and developing. Some of mine have started from a small but obvious crack in the skin which turns red and then eventually forms a sore. Some have been less obvious and have only shown themselves after a time of under-skin development, then the skin breaks open to reveal a hole underneath that is considerably larger than the initial signs have indicated. Unfortunately, some don't hurt at all, while others are really sore, yet may only be tiny.

Generally speaking, most of mine end up looking the same - red or black, deep wounds with an amount of pus in them. That's why, to be honest, ANY unusual marks on your feet are a good reason to visit the diabetic nurse or your GP. The mark you've noticed is suspicious, simply because you know it hasn't been caused by a rub. And even if it was caused by a rub, it can still become an ulcer very easily if it doesn't get the right care.

Many thanks for your reply mrburden.
I have this morning made an appointment to see my GP who unfortunately is away for a fortnight but at least I know it will be looked at.
I have also woken today with pain in the bottom of my other foot so another good reason to see the dreaded GP  :)
Oh the joys of diabetes!

Keep a good watch on it, 2 weeks can be a long time in the overall process of ulcers.
