Ultrasound rules?

Hey all. I've finally got my scan tomorrow for my kidney - the doctors didn't give me any instructions about what to do beforehand. Apparently you have to drink water an hour before and not go for a wee?
My friend also told me not to eat after 8pm tonight - but that can't be right surely?

I think your best bet would be to phone your clinic before they close and ask what their prerequisites for renal ultrasounds are.

The receptionists are usually pretty clued up regarding that sort of info, so should be able to answer your query over the phone - without the need for you to speak with a doctor.

Hi @Chloesnavy I wasn't advised not to eat. I had a liver ultrasound recently and they didn't ask me to do anything special like drink and not wee, but for the kidney ones last year I seem to remember having to assure the HCP that yes I had drunk lots. Nothing about no food though.

I'd give them a call to check what they're expecting you to do. But with all due respect to your friend, if there IS a requirement to fast from 8pm you would certainly expect to have been told that by the hospital. If you haven't been told that, I would suspect that you are expected to follow your normal meal routine.

But do give them a call just to make sure.

Really glad you've got the scan coming up - and I hope you're beginning to feel better! This has been going on for far too long, you poor thing!
