When I was first diagnosed with Diabetes about 3 years ago I managed to get my morning blood sugar under control within 3 weeks from 8.2 to 4.7. However I let this slip. I have now made a concerted bid to get my morning bp undercontrol once again, through diet and weight loss but its to no avial. I just cannot seem to control it. I am now doing the same things i was doing when i was first diagnosed but its not helping. why is this? Morning levels are around 7.5

@netter G'day, Carbs like grains and bread and starch like potato is what sends us high as well as all the sugars and sweet fruit.

Hi. Don't worry too much about morning fasting blood sugar but rather the 2 hour post-meal readings. Have you reduced the carbs? What is your current BMI? Have you seen the GP about having some meds? I note that you are quite young so don't forget that some younger T2s are actually mis-diagnosed T1s. If with normal weight you still have high blood sugar even with a low-carb diet then discuss meds with the GP and possibly the two tests for Late onset T1 (LADA)

Hi Daibell.
I'm 34 not 27 as per my profile so i am not that young.
My post meal readings are ok around 6.5 mark. My BMI is very high, around 38. GP hasn't start meds as my HBa1c levels have been around 6.8% over the past 3 yrs. i have cut out carbs, bread, pasta soft drinks.

You could talk to your Dr about metformin, insulin resistance and dawn phenomenon and its weight loss benefit ..
Also low carb/atkins/lchf diet is worth looking at
