Hi, As a newly diagnosed diabetic its a new journey of medical jargon and language to grasp.
Then how and where to begin with all the bumpf and speel you hear, get told and first recieve at your GP clinic or with the nurse
I came away in a thick fog and head in a whirl, took me few' weeks' to settle and get my bearings.
Finding this forum was like a lifejacket thrown out in the sea, kept me afloat and kept me going with help, tips, support, those first few months.
Goodness knows what or how I would have gone on or done without it?
I was angry too and couldnt accept that "ME" "I" was diabetic either, now looking back it is a good thing that has happened to me to get all my health factors tackled and brought under control.
It has raised my body is a temple at me! Take care of it!
Am just wondering IF others were ? are ? affected ? similar upon diagnosed.

I sort of had a clue so wasn't shocked at diagnosis, but it's amazing how much you learn about diet etc when it's now relevant to yourself. But whatever the problem I'm a fighter so knew I'd soon get control. I don't have a meter but I focussed on losing weight so if blood sugar was still high I can prove I've made an effort and then insist on a meter as I'd of proven my willingness to make changes. I guess what I learnt here was too good! As my tests at doc's are comparable to non-diabetic readings!

I was diagnosed 3 years ago and have only recently found this forum after going off the rails a bit (a lot). I think that I am still in denial sometimes, or so my partner tells me! I was very angry and upset at first as I have always been the healthiest in my family, I don't really drink much apart from the odd glass of wine now again with dinner, I've never smoked and have always been active and there is no history of any illnessess in our family. When I was diagnosed I was completely on my own as my parents live in Spain and the rest of my family lives on the east coast (I'm in Hertfordshire). I just had to get on with it and still feel that I have a lack of support from the rest of my family purely because they don't understand the condition (and have no intention to either). My partner on the other hand (who I got with a few weeks after I was diagnosed) has been the biggest help to me that I could ever wish for. If it wasn't for him I probably would have given up. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one struggling at times and the hints and tips that I have read already has been a massive help. I'll keep coming back everytime I feel things are slipping out of my control.
