Uneven absorption ?!?!

I've been diabetic for 18 years now with excellent control...well till recently. I'm now suffering with uneven insulin absorption - or at least thats what it appears.

I'm on Novorapid before meals and Lantus in the evening. I regularly switch injection sites, normally using arms and stomach for meals and legs for evening injection.

Now when injecting sometimes my insulin appears to take absolutely no affect with levels rising to 17mmols. A second injection normally brings this down to normal but there doesn't appear to be much logic to when it does and doesn't take affect. Even tried a totally new part of my stomach which worked perfectly for a couple of days but now back to the same problem.

If this is over use of injection sites what can I do bearing in mind I have been doing 4 injections per day for almost 18 years!

I'm using novorapids pre-filled pens so I think it is unlikely it could be the pen being faulty. Another thought - I wonder if a longer needle length might do the trick?

Just a thought> I had something similar once, and it was my long acting insulin "running out". This might explain it if this happens at teh same time of day...if its random, then I don't know..could it be the length of time between eating and injecting that is changing? Again, not likely I know. Good luck, and let us know if you find teh answer!

Hi John,

I seem to be having a similar problem with absorbtion. At first it was my morning sugars but since switching site to my stomach that problem seems to be fixed. Unfortunately it is now my lunchtime sugars which are extremely high.

Would be really please to hear what you have tried and with what success???
