Unexplained high sugars

Over the past 3 hours, i have had readings of 20 , depite doing correction doses. I have done a total of 20 units of insulin and my sugars are still running at 19. I havent had anything to eat for nearly 5 hours, so i dont know what is causing this. Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone have any advice?

How old is the insulin ? Has it been near heat ? Is your injection site ok ? Do you any more insulin you can try ? Just keep monitoring and test for ketones ! Good luck !

Have been using it for 4 days i think, have stored it in the same way as i always do. Have used 3 different injection sights for the correction doses. Its so annoying because i have never had this problem before! Im so hungry but dont want to eat until my sugars have settled down incase it plays them up too much.
Thanks

Strange. Have you tested for ketones ? If you're hungry, eat something non carb, omelette or something. Keep testing and hopefully you should start to come down. You didn't forget your basal did you ?

Ive been re testng, lowest ive had is 16 now, but my machine still getting me to do extra units. Worked out that in 2.5 hours, ive had 20 units in correction doses and theyve only gone from 20 to 16. Have done my long lasting, so no problems there.
So frustrating!

When have you done correction doses, remember the more injections you do in a four hour period, the more insulin peaks you will have.

From personal experience of trying not to eat when having high blood sugars, it just makes them worse. I've read this is because the liver starts chucking out glycogen cos it gets confused because you're getting no glucose from food.

I don't take insulin so things may be different for someone who does, but did run high for four days recently and, like you, kept trying to not eat in the hope it would help but it didn't... it was only by eating normally-ish again that they came back down - and then I learnt about the liver / glycogen thing and it made sense, so just passing on what I learnt in the hope it may help. Good luck and hope your numbers come down soon.
