Take between 15 and 30 units a day. 9 of which are basal. I don’t ultra low carb on a daily basis. But don’t generally eat potatoes/pasta/pizza/bread. But that doesn’t mean I won’t if out, on holiday or fancying. Hence the variation in units.
I don’t believe there is an optimum amount. We are human beings. Male/female, big/small, active/inactive, stressed/unstressed. Basically individuals!

I take 4 units long-lasting (Basaglar), 3 units Novorapid before breakfast, 2 units Novorapid at lunch (on a work day), 5 units Novorapid before dinner. I'm down to approx 120 carbs a day now.
