I'm not a doctor, nurse or expert in this field, just another diabetic. According to my meter 8.5 is in the 'normal' range. What was your reading before you ate? Compare the before and afters to know how much your meal drove your sugars up.
You have a meter so what I would do is test yourself all week. Take one as soon as you wake up in the morning. Then before you eat breakfast. Then 2 hours after. Same thing for lunch and dinner. Keep a record. Also of what you eat. Let us know your results and we may be able to guide you.
It's always good to be mindful this is a global community with a variety of different levels communicating in one common language on this forum.. Along with difference skill sets in experience.
But a single pinprick on a home meter is not sufficient to draw conclusions. They are simply not accurate enough. Take more readings as described above and if still concerned take them to your doctor and get a diagnostic test and help.
