Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me I have a completely unquenchable thirst. I've had it for about 3 months, I've asked my dn who basically said there's nothing she can do my sugars r reasonable although not the best, normally between 6 and 10.
I've tried drinking 2lotre of water a day bt it doesn't help
Does anyone have the same problem or had it and managed to solve it.

Any help would be appreciated xx

Hi Lauren,

When your BGS are better controlled the thirst will go. You should be under 6 most of the time, the exception being post meal times. At 2hours you should try to come in with levels under 7.8, ideally under 6.7.

You need to test your BGs before and after meals and rule out foods which raise your blood sugar levels too high. They are likely to be the "white" carbs - potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, cereals, all the fun stuff... It is a process called Eating to your Meter.

Exercise can also help to bring your BGs down as can medication.
Good Luck,

Hi thanks I've tried that it doesn't work. I've just realised it says three months it should say 6.
I know sugars are supposed to be under 6 but when mines r I get hypo symptoms which I'm not comfortable just carrying on my day with x

They are false symptoms - real hypos are low 3s and less. Because your body is operating at much higher levels it signals incorrectly. I got these too in the first few months after I was diagnosed.
You have to reduce your levels if you want the thirst (and other complications which will follow) to go away. There is no other miracle out there. Diet and exercise are a vital part of diabetes management.

That said it is your choice. (and your legs, your vision, your kidneys, your heart...) Sucks though, I know. :)

The best thing is I'm not newly diagnosed bt I've had it nearly 16 years it all started when I was put on 4 injections a day which I have now stopped and am back on two. Excercise isn't really an issue I walk my dog 4x30 mins a day sometimes more and I work pat time in a shop so constantly on my feet. I suppose it should really give it a few weeks until the levels settle back down again and see if it disappears xx

You have a lot more D experience than me - I am a year in.
Good luck anyway, I hope it all settles down for you...x

It doesn't feel like it at times, lol my hospital seems to be so far behind everyone else.

I'm hoping it will disappear its causing real problems and peeing me off now. Thanks for your answers anyway xx
