Good Evening,

I'm seeing my doctor on Tuesday, but i wanted to share my experiences and hear other people thoughts. About 20 months ago I decided to stop having refined sugar in my diet. so out went sugar with tea, cereals and sweet things .e.t.c After a period of time doing this I noticed how much of a strong reaction I had when i did have anything with refined sugar in.

This caused me anxiety, headaches, tiredness and just generally feeling pretty hopeless and unable to function very well. So Ive tried to avoid high sugar foods, but it seems so much is causing the same effect. Last week it was carrots, albeit a lot of them , then fish and chips, then salted popcorn, and now it feels like a mind field even eating for fear of eating something that will give me this sugar high and then a total crash.

I also don't actually really experience a high, as for one I'm not looking for that and two nothing really seems to happen. Anyway I feel baffled and confused and very tired as I'm on an emotional roller coaster that has effected my relationship and my work I feel safe just eating chicken right now.

I'm unsure if diabetes is even relevant but i just wanted to get some feedback as I seem so sensitive to sugar in comparison to anyone else I know!

Thanks

Matt

Many of the foods we eat are high in carbs not just sugar. High-GI carbs such as sucrose can cause carb-highs with the downside being the hunger for more and feeling a bit down perhaps. Now, eating raw carrots is good as they are low-GI i.e. the carb cells haven't been broken down. Eating cooked carrots can be almost as bad as eating sucrose as they are high-GI. So, if you are someone who has carb highs and lows more noticeably then do try to keep to low-GI carbs and have them with fats and protein to slow absorption. Obviously reducing their proportion in the diet will help.
