Unusual reducing insulin requirement

I am type 2 controlled for several years by insulin.
In general my usage would be about 28 units 3 times daily(Novorapid) and 48(Tresiba) nightly.
I was recently placed on the list for a kidney transplant and in general im coping ok.
I was recently prescribed ear drops..Gentamicin/Hydrocortisone to clear a long standing ear infection which seems to have sorted the problem.
May be a coincidence but since taking the drops my insulin requirement has dropped on average to 20 units 3 times daily from 28 and to 20 at night from 48? The night dosage could happily come down another couple of points as my morning reading is regularly 4 to 5.
My questions are...could these drops be the reason? If not why else would my requirement be dropping?.No change in my eating habits or exercise regime.

Infections can cause a rise in blood sugar so if you've had a long standing infection and its now gone that may be one reason.
