Unusually high sugars for over a week

Hi

I'm a type 1 diabetic and for around the past 8 days I haven't been able to control my blood sugars in my normal way. I'm waking up every day or at around 5 in the morning with reading between 16 and 18, this is after going to bed with readings around 5-6. Normally I would put this down to being ill but as I don't feel unwell I have no idea why they are constantly rising. I can deal with it in the day by injecting a lot more Nova raprid than normal but it's not so easy at night.

As it's been going on for over a week now I have no idea what could be causing this and wondered if anyone has any advice?

Thanks

Patrick

Hi Patrick, do you have any problems with your teeth? I know its a wierd question but infections can cause BG to rise and tooth infections are very common in diabetics ...

Tried changing your insulin to another batch? I am on pump now but was injecting for years, sometimes one pen seemed not to work so why not crack open a new one (it is christmas  )? I also noticed when I first had my pump that it degraded and think it was getting to hot under the covers at night so I got a longer tube and place it out of the covers. Otherwise You could wake and test every two hours to give you a read of when they are picking up, possibly if only high in morning it's your longacting messing up rather than bolus? I speak with no medical knowledge just saying what I would try. Good Luck . When i wake up high I usely blame the wife for feeding me sugar cubes while I'm asleep :D
