Evening everyone. I've been feeling unwell all day and have no appetite. I don't think I'm going down with anything, my bg levels have been between 6.4 and 7.8. I'm supposed to inject my mixed insulin prior to dinner, but I don't want anything to eat. Would it be safe to not inject insulin as I'm not having anything to eat? My bg was 6.5 about an hour ago. Many thanks.

Sorry to hear you are unwell, June :(
It's not a good idea to skip your mixed even when you are not eating, because the lack of the basal in the mix can cause elevated BG . Are you drinking ok ? Measured amounts of juice or lucozade could keep you stable while not eating, but measure your bloods more frequently to ensure you are not going too high or low

If you have a look at the following chart for Sick Day Rules, it gives advice on coping whilst using mixed as well as basal/bolus .

I do hope you are feeling better soon, and this is just a case of The Fleeting Blaaghs !

Sorry to hear your unwell June, hope it passes soon and take care.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. Thankfully I feel better today, not quite back to normal, but a definite improvement on yesterday. Because of my fear of having a hypo during the night, I opted not to inject last night. This morning I was expecting a high bg level, but to my surprise it was only 6.8, a little higher than normal (I'm usually in the 5s to lower 6s). So today, it's back on the diabetic treadmill, with bg levels probably running a little higher than usual, but I can live with that. Does make me think about basal/bolus regime again, but I really don't fancy 3 extra injections every day. That's a decision for another day. Apologies, I'm rambling on a bit.

Thanks for posting that you are OK, and I'm glad that you are :) Yes, your BG levels may run a tad higher today, but not worryingly so, and indeed they may surprise you ! That's the nature of the beast :banghead:

From my perspective I don't see any crushing need at this stage to change to basal/ bolus if you don't want to. If it ain't broke, don't fix it  Some people do stay on mixed through preference, others switch then switch back again. Fortunately it's a reversible process either way . It sounds to me that you are enjoying the stability of your present regime :)

I hope you have a better day today !

I'm happy being on mixed for the moment. Yes it is slightly restrictive, but I seem to have it pretty much nailed at the moment, although I get results that surprise me, such as this morning. My after breakfast reading is only 0.6 higher (7.4). Didn't expect that, but as you say that's the nature of the beast. I now realise what a fantastic job the pancreas used to do and however hard we try, we can't quite match its efficiency. I have a sneaky suspicion that mine is still firing, albeit only on one cyclinder rather than the full set........................:)
