I am having my second review since diagnosis (last August) around the end of May. At fiirst review after three months I was told to come back after six months.
I think I have to get blood taken a couple of weeks before the appointment but need to know how I should prepare for this I.e. should I fast before having the blood taken, and if so, for how long?
Should I also take a urine sample when the blood is taken, or at the actual review?

Hi iain

Not had my review yet, I think it depends what tests they are doing, HBA1c doesn't require fasting. If they are also checking other things like chloestrol then it would be a fasting test.

best bet is to ring the surgery/clinic you are attending and ask what you are expected to bring/do. Not doing it right could delay the results appt.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Iain,

It seems to differ depEnding where you are in the UK. For me, I have an annual review and a mini check up each year. The annual review involves a fasting blood test (normally a week before), urine sample, check of the feet, retina screening (done separately). Minin check up is a non-fasting blood test and a general chat.

I'd call up and ask whether you need to fast and if you need to provide a urine sample. If you do get a pot and make sure it's the first wee of the day.

Hope this helps

Em

I would expect it to be a fasting blood test and normally you would take a urine sample along with you and the blood and urine then get tested in time for the review
