I'm on a bit of a high today!

As I indicated in a previous post, I have been introducing more carbs into my diet since finishing my version of the Newcastle diet at the end of November. I was more than happy then as I had reduced my HBA1C from 77 at diagnosis to 38 in 3 months, but was very wary of my next set of figures as Crimbo and a more normal(ish) diet would ramp things up.
Anyway, just came bouncing back from the doctors with a HBA1C of 34!!!! So chuffed and I have had a lot of naughty things in the intervening time, so I conclude that my reduction in BMI from 32.8 to my present 23.5 is responsible for this and things are working internally where they weren't before.
Doc has told me to stop the Metformin and see what the next reading is like. I would like to thank all of you on here that empowered me with the information and resolution to attempt reversal, and I can honestly say that my diagnosis was a positive thing in hindsight, as I'm not on blood pressure meds any more either and thoroughly enjoy yomping through the hills.
Somebody pass me a piece of white toast

Hi, this is so great to hear!

Congratulations!!! It should be really exciting to achieve the level of health we all aspire to in terms of BG and weight :).

I don't know much about the Newcastle diet, but have been thinking all these days about what happens after achieving both ideal BMI and normal BG's and improving insulin sensitivity.

I hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions, it would be lovely to know more details.

How long did you stay in the Newcastle diet for? Do you exercise? How much weight did you lose? Do you use the BG meter to monitor your levels every day?... sorry if I am too curious but it would be helpful to me :)

I still have hope that for me some level of reversal is possible once achieving certain targets.

Enjoy your success!

Please don't apologise for wanting more information, knowledge is power!

I followed my own version of the diet for 12 weeks, losing 5 stones and 2 lbs. I did a lot of walking during the diet, consisting mostly of a 2 - 3 mile walk after dinner most evenings and out in the hills with my better half some weekends. I take my fasting readings every morning, and post prandials after new food to see what it does to me; I find that eating to your meter is a must and would highly recommend it.

Good luck with your journey!

So very inspiring::)) congratulations hairycamel, this should be posted and prominently displayed for all dn's to read.

Congrats mate, you now know that any backsliding can be put in its place by low carbing again.
Enjoy your toast.
