So I haven't been on here much lately but here's my update. I was last told I was MODY but now it's changed to onset type 1 which I find strange because well I went dangerously low on tablets and my levels have been okay lately. I've been monitoring my blood sugars and they've been about 4-5 during the day and 3-4 at night (I do a lot of physical training in the evenings) and am currently not on any medication.

Now this may sound stupid but tonight I checked my blood sugars at 6:30 and they were 6.1 before that I'd last eaten at about 2:30 and normally they're about 3.8- 4.2 and I know 6 isn't dangerously high or anything but I couldn't help worrying about why it was higher tonight apologies I know it probably sounds dumb but my diabetic place said that if my bloods ever rise to over 6 they'll consider putting me on insulin so I wanted to check.

Increase in Blood Sugar Levels could be caused by a variety of things - Stress, Adrenalin, Caffeine, High Carb Meal etc - but what I find somewhat strange is their comment "if my bloods ever rise to over 6 they'll consider putting me on insulin". Non diabetes people have BGs that fluctuate all the time - there is nothing abnormal about that. Where diabetics differ is the fact that our fluctuation is often much greater. If you were say between 6 - 8 a couple of hours after eating a meal - with no meds - In My Opinion - nothing to worry about. If you were fasting for 8 hours and your BGs were between 6 - 8 there would be some cause for concern I suspect.

Be careful - you might be a round peg that they are trying to fit in a square hole or is it a square peg in to a round hole ... Lol

So In your opinion them being 6.1 isn't that big a deal

Hi. Sounds to me you need someone who knows what they're talking about to explain things properly to you.
As Fletch said different things seems to cause unusual readings. What did you have for your 2.30 meal for example?
There is a thread here about spikes after sport which may help. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/spikes-after-sport.127758/#post-1586568
Your reading doesn't sound high and may be be a one-off but what I have read on here (by those far more experienced than me) is that rogue readings do occur and that people are more concerned about upward trends.
Like you my heart skips a beat when I see a high one. For example the other day I had a 7 after a 12-hour fast (liver dump?) then a 5 something 2 hours after a small low carb meal. It's all very peculiar sometimes but hopefully the overall trend is down, or at least steady.
Perhaps speak to your team / nurse. But you may find as much help somewhere on here.

Okay reading this back I was getting worried over nothing. I'm not even diagnosed with it yet and my sugars are constantly in the 4s or 5s so all good right now. I mean yeah they're getting higher like they used to be in 3s after hard exercise but that's not great either. Like today I did a 10 mile run so thought they'd be quite low but were 4.6 at first I worried but then I realised that if a normal person took their sugars and were 4.6 there'd be no issue at all.

Also I've come to the point where i feel if I do have to start insulin so what it's just medicine it's no worse than someone with asthma needing an inhaler
