Upset with this website

Hi everybody, just seen an article in the news section which finished with the editor stating type 2 diabetes can be put into remission and all drugs stopped if you change your lifestyle.
I am not overweight, eat well and am fit, even if I eat nothing my liver will put my BG into double figures without meds/insulin. Statements like this just make people feel guilty that it is something they are doing that has caused the diabetes. I am sure for some people a lifestyle change will help for others it definitely won’t. I thought this website was better educated than this.

The article is correct, you've just misinterpreted the message and frustration took over. Diabetes is a very frustrating condition at times. I take insulin, low carb means I take much less than I would be taking if I followed conventional diet advice. That's the impact of life style choices for me. So it is successful as far as I'm concerned and accurate.

We've all misread things from to time... it happens. Not a big deal.

Hi,

Sorry you feel this way. There are a few reasons why your BG would be put into the double figures without the prescribed meds.
My personal experience with T1 has always been about the balance between diet (what & how digested.) & the insulin's working profile... One has to think for a dysfunctional part of the body that was once part of an "engine managment system."

Nobody "asks" for a condition. But the statement that certain types or variants of diabetes can be managed to the point of lowering or even comming of medication (with consultation of an HCP.) gives potential hope amidst a barrage of insidious negativity reported in the tabloids on a condition misrepresented on news stands at garages across the nation..

Hope this helps with a more positive perspective! :)

. . . . . if I eat nothing my liver will put my BG into double figures without meds/insulin.

As Indy51 says, the operative word is can, it doesn't always have the same result. I have the same issue as you, but not all the time. I have been through months at a time where my BG is between 5 and 7 and meals don't cause spikes because I'm sticking to under 20gms carb per meal. Then, without warning my BG will start rising in the mornings, a la Dawn Phenomena, even though I haven't eaten a meal for 10 hours. I've had my insulin resistance and that has changed, and, although I haven't matched it to my BG yet, I'm sure that's behind my BG looking more like a roller coaster.

I don't detest ignorance. I pity it.
I see so many angry posts. Comments made out of frustration.
I think many would benefit from psychotheraphy.
Ive learned to let go. Yes, my experience of having a psychologist enlighten me has made me see all critism isn't helpful. Only some.
Sometimes the posts are very negative and not everyone is as hard faced as me. It plays on their mind and can do some harm.

I have posted when I'm annoyed but only annoyed at an ignorant post about ignorance.

There is a saying that "you should remove the splinter in your own eye before attempting to remove a plank from someone else's!"

I just find critical posts not very helpful.
Yes. My personal experience tells me that. I'd like to think some of my experiences encourage wisdom. Not constant critism.

If I was such an expert then I wouldn't still have type2 since posters believe, I have acquired it from fat. When many experts are saying insulin resistance causes weight gain.
Weight gain on top of weight gain causes obesity problems.

Some babies are being born obese due to bad diet and insulin not managed correctly by the mother.
That baby hasn't been ignorant nor stupid.

Many kids in the UK are having dietician support stopped. Why?
Because the nhs are hoping parents are learning about keeping to a healthy weight and are passing it on.
Genetically if a specific diet suits the adults. (in my case... Low fat/low carb) then it could benefit the children.
Although my kids rely on others to fed them in school times.

I think personal experience makes us who we are but deciding not to read negative comments on your favourite forum is everyone's right. Not being afraid to say that shouldn't even have to come into it.
Many leave because of excessive negativity when they are seeking support not condamnation.
Sorry but true. Fact, not my opinion but from PMs I've received in the past from very supportive members who felt if they spoke up they would be ostracized. So they leave instead. I know they looked to me to speak for them but I didn't want to enjoy the forum that way. I believe we are all entitled to give our support, speaking for ourselves. I never encourage gang mentality.
I’m totally confused by your posts @ickihun

Your first, made directly after mine, stated “Watch out your blinkers aren't causing the same ignorance you detest?”. It’s not clear who that is aimed or in respect to which comments. At the time of my reply I made, perhaps wrongly, the assumption it was my post but still not sure what part you find ignorant. Could you clarify please? I cannot reconsider my comments unless I know the issues it raises. Maybe we disagree or making there’s a loss in translation that can be clarified and I can avoid doing again. Vague criticisms don’t help anyone much move forward constructively.

The only negative post on this thread seems to me to be the op’s frustration at the article he read. Everyone else seems pretty supportive to me. What is critical and unhelpful in your opinion?

I’d agree there is a lot of ignorance about nutrition and diet, especially suitability for individuals. I’d also agree with your comments in The last paragraph about personal experience and being able to speak without fear.

I've been a member of this forum for a while. I've found it very supportive to everyone and myself. The advice has been spot on, reading through people's stories and their own experiences has been very helpful for me to understand my condition.
Much better than my own diabetic team, whom I didn't learn a thing, their input was.
Don't test as its not needed or accurate, the only need the HbA1c is needed and more accurate, Not to low carb as its unsustainable and must eat carbs. they told me to use Diabetes UK and not diabetes.co.uk,
The advice on here worked for me, my last A1c was 39 in New money. Placing me in non diabetic range.

I think either the OP has been misdiagnosed as others have suggested and or eating foods which effects their levels more than they thought. Many foods recommended for those with diabetes T2 deemed healthy, stabilises glucose levels in fact, not suitable for T2 as they raise blood sugars, Even though they claim they are low GI. I am sure if I followed the official advice I would have graduated onto insulin and wondering were am I going wrong.

Someone suggested to let us know What you are eating, maybe we could spot the problem.

He’s not been back on the forum since posting the op so won’t have even read them yet let alone replied. Whether he returns at all is in question though.
I never looked to see when he was last here.

Anyone can read the forum without logging on, o he could easily have read every remark, but not felt the need or desire to respond
