Sorry I'm not familiar with an insulin pump assessment? Hopefully others will be along to help soon. My DSN suggested I go on the pump and her and the consultant then got my case approved through the local health board. Took a while between 3-4 months in total but worth it. Let's hope someone can tell you what these assessments are all about.

I'm not experienced with the assessment either so can't really advise you but I'm guessing they'll want to hear that your struggling with controlling bloods and not able to get your hba1c to a suitable level even after adjusting insulin levels and carbohydrate counting. Having alot of hypos is also one if the criteria as this was one of my big problems.

I'm only into my 5th day of pumping and so far I absolutely love not having to keep doing big doses of insulin through injecting. It's taking alot of work to get my basal rates correct and I'm having to do 2 hourly checks throughout the night in a fasting state to see what's happening overnight with my readings, but I don't mind as I know it's all going to help me stabilise my bloods overnight and get rid of the various night time hypos.

I did have alot of hypos the first 2 days but I've noticed a big improvement in my readings in terms of stability from the start, also already getting lots more in target than MDI.

You do have to be willing to do lots of testing though especially while you are adjusting your basal rates. I'm pregnant so it's part of my routine to test alot anyway but even still I'm testing alot more than usual.

Advantages, Alot more flexibility, Can do alot more types of doses, 0.1-1, an inject any time anywhere, don't need to be on multiple injections, reminds you when to test, it does carb counting for you if you put the info in correctly, Disadvantage: if you do't get a wireless one you have to have a tube into you most of the time, which some people aren't a fan of but It doesn't really concern me at all, that's the only downside i can think of it, they're really fantastic to have

Another big advantage for me is I never really know what I'm going to eat I often leave some food or sometimes may want a pudding and with injecting before meals it makes you have to eat what you've injected for, and I never want to inject again for a pudding but now I can just administer another dose of bolus easy!
