Test immediately before you eat then again 2 hours after your first bite. Look at the difference from before to after and keep it as low as you can, definitely no more than 2mmol/l rise and preferably a lot less. Keep a food diary including portion sizes and record your levels alongside so you can see which foods are worse for you and need adjusting somehow.
Random testing is a waste of time, strips, and stress levels. You need to be organised with it, and be able to learn from it
