Useful diabetes diet advice

My dad was diagnosed as pre diabetic a couple of months ago and my mom is close too. I'm worried for them but also for myself since I have the genes obviously. My dad is now in the normal range after exercising and really paying attention to his diet the past few months. I think one of the big diet problems with diabetes is that most people are confused about what a good diet is exactly. I came across a useful website which clearly explains the disease and the basic philosophy of dieting for diabetes. It will take a lot of the guess work out. http://www.diabetespreventiondiet.com

I looked at the diet and it looks like a variation of the Diabetes Uk and ADA diet. it starts with "Good choices" wholegrains.
Many of us have found that a diet based on grains is too high in carbs.
Richard Bernstein, the diabetes diet Guru, for many of us here would NOT like that advice.
hE WOULD ADVISE A DIET LOW IN aNY KIND OF CARBOHYDRATE.

I think it's an individual thing. Not all diabetics can go low carb. For me, it would be bad as I also have liver disease. A high protein high fat diet would be terrible for me. Slow release carbs and fresh fruit and veg are staples. I'm not vegetarian, as I eat seafood and fish, but I don't eat poultry or meat.
