Browsing around on the web, I found the online General Practice Notebook which has quite a lot of info in one place - also it seems to be up to date; many sites still quote the older, and higher, fasting diagnostic value of 7.8, for instance.
There are a number of summaries of various diabetes studies; just reading one linking reduced blood pressure to lower mortality from diabetes-related complications - all useful stuff.
