Recently I've encountered a couple of people, one with whom I work and another that runs the gym I use, that both have young children who were recently diagnosed with T1. As someone who isn't shy about people seeing I'm diabetic and who shows off their libre scanner, this has resulted in some interesting discussions, not least is that 26 years on, I'm still in good health.

The upshot is that I've been asked by one if I'd mind having lunch with a client of his who was a late diagnosis t1 as they discuss diabetes all the time when meeting. I wondered if anyone else had been able to use their diabetes in this kind of positive fashion?

I work in the healthcare industry and never hiding my measurements/insulin shooting, so eh.
Yep! :)

Surprisingly I have met several good colleagues that had never shared with anybody at work that they actually had diabetes.
I introduced 'celebrating' the annual day for Diabetes in my company (20k+ employees) and there organised all got e.g. screened (if volunteering) for high blood sugars. Found 6 employees that actually were aware and treated their diabetes but had never shared with any at work, and identified two having T2 but not aware of it themselves. Think around the world you have many employees still shy and hiding in the corners, suffering in silence, not getting measured/taking shots at optimal time, etc. Hope more general awareness and knowledge among all employees and population in general will make it easier for all diabetics 'to come out of the closet'!

Yep do it all the time in one way or another...

Our PPG has just received a "highly commended" award and won a plaque and small cheque for our patients from the work volunteers do and I never hide my pump or great physique and health from people that ask.

Two youngsters have been introduced to me by their parents who wish for the child and themselves to know more about them.
