I have been type 1 for 6 month now and blood reading are staying about 5to 8 and want to no if I do not take my insulin will this cause any harm.
The lat time I was at the hosp they said my average readings over the past 3 month had been 6.5 and were ok with that .I only take my night time lantus 12 units before bed . I do a lot of cycling could this be why I dont need as much or is it still the honneymoon it is kind of a hit and miss at the moment .

Hi. If you are on once a day insulin then you still have some pancreatic function left. The 12 units of Lantus implies you are very sensitive to insulin i.e. aren't insulin resistant. I'm the same i.e. 10 units of Levemir at night. With once a day insulin, not taking it will 'just' cause a big rise in blood sugar. A full-blown Type 1 on 4 injections a day would rapidly go into Ketoacidosis and probably a coma. Yes, the cycling will help just as my gym does. Some people have honeymoon periods and others don't so only time will tell. Avoiding becoming overweight will also avoid becoming insulin resistant.
