Utterly random spike

I've been working, pretty warm, no air con, and putting together flat pack furniture for 6 hours or so. (said about 200kg worth on the boxes)

I've been drinking water, on reflection, not much, but I've not really been sweating either.
I've not eaten anything at all.

I stopped because I started to feel ill. Actually sick type ill, and decided my BG in case I was low, even though it doesn't normally make me feel sick.

8.6! I tested twice to be sure.

That's after the gym yesterday so I would expect to be lower today if anything.

So, 8.6 after at least 6 hours fast, I don't go that high after food, so that must have some spectacular liver dump there.

That'll teach me to say I enjoy the heat!

Yes I always spike if I haven't eaten and exercise at all.

Sorry you feel rough, @SunnyExpat .
Would this 'randomness' from your post last night be a contributory factor?

Scrabble, hats and apple pie

Hope you feel better soon. Plenty of water, and a nice bacon, egg, and sausage breakfast usually helps.
:)

I spike with any form of exercise without food. If I'm doing any kind of labor I need a few snacks to avoid dumps. Usually a slice of avocado or a few nuts do the trick. Stop the dump but don't raise.

Actually, it was just white wine, and I was fairly low after that.

I usually only spike after intensive exercise, never any side effects though, and I usually burn off the spike, not usually anywhere near that high though. My liver is usually quite good, I tend to expect dumps, and work with that.

I still can't work it out.
I'm feeling ok now, maybe it was just dehydration.
But that usually gets me a headache.
I'm starting to wonder if I picked up something somewhere that I ingested, or a reaction to something, and the increase in BG was just a symptom of some sort of stomach upset.
But then again, it not been before, and I've eaten nothing, but I did have a coffee earlier.
Maybe the milk was off.

As someone who's is not knowledgeable about what you have as I'm not diabetic!

But for some, fasting and exercising would definitely make your liver respond.

However and just a thought, you may be allergic to work!

I've always been allergic to work. :)

Heat, stress, physical activity and/or lack of adequate sleep affects my blood glucose levels.

One of the benefits of tracking blood glucose levels throughout the day on the LCHF diet/LCKD is discovering patterns.

My blood glucose levels often drop while sleeping.

My blood glucose levels often increase by 10 mg/dL (0.5 mmol/L) from the time I wake to 30 minutes later when I sit down to eat my breakfast.

Also, if my blood glucose level is normal (for me), going for a walk often won't change it, and sometimes will increase it.

But if my blood glucose levels are high, I can knock my blood glucose levels down up to 40 mg/dL (2.3 mmol/L) in one mile, up to 80 mg/dL (4.5 mmol/L) in two to three miles.

I do a 12 to 14 hour fast daily between dinner and breakfast. I think my blood glucose level would rise too if I hadn't gotten enough sleep, skipped breakfast and then preceded to do a strenuous task over a period of hours because my liver releases glucose when stressed. And for me, not eating breakfast alone without those other factors is all it takes for me to experience a "liver dump". :)

We're all so individual though. Patterns true for me may not be true for you.

Here's my readings for the last 24 hours or so - (apologies for the lack of completeness)...

Monday
125 mg/dL (7 mmol/L) Pre-bed, worked 5 hours that evening

Tuesday
87 mg/dL (4.9 mmol/L) Upon awakening
--- Pre-breakfast
120 mg/dL (6.7 mmol/L) Post-breakfast, 2 hrs 22 min
103 mg/dL (5.7 mmol/L) Pre-lunch
--- Post-lunch
87 mg/dL mg/dL (4.9 mmol/L) Pre-dinner
119 mg/dL mg/dL (6.6 mmol/L) Post-dinner, 1 hr 36 min
--- mg/dL ( mmol/L) Pre-snack (1oz nuts)
--- mg/dL ( mmol/L) Post-snack
113 mg/dL (6.3 mmol/L) Pre-walk 0.75 mile
114 mg/dL (6.4 mmol/L) Post-walk, 57 min
--- Pre-bed

98 mg/dL (5.5 mmol/L) Upon awakening
106 mg/dL (5.9 mmol/L) Pre-breakfast

That's dehydration, I would guarantee that. In feeling sick, your body is trying too get rid of food that needs fluids to digest.

Take note of it and drink plenty of fluids and go easy on the eating for several hours. Personally, I would have plenty of weak NAS squash with some salt added.

If you pinch the skin on the back of your hand, or inner arm, does it bounce back immediately, or does the pich linger? That's another decent tester.
