Dear all

Have had BG around 30 for the last three days - suspect infection as cause. Today have been 'Hi' for last 7-8 hours....all this despite giving liberal amounts of insulin. However, only trace ketones. Wondering if I need to go to A&E in light of fact that BG is so high and not coming down, but if no ketones is risk of DKA so low that I'm better off staying here at home and taking lots of insulin instead?

Thanks

hi there @type_1_girl
how are you feeling in yourself ??

do you have an infection ?

those sort of numbers are not brilliant ( understatement ) but with no ketones perhaps you can manage yourself out of the current high

have you rung the NHS 111 number for their advice ??

what are your numbers like normally ??

Hi - thanks for response - feel typical for such high numbers - thirsty, zero energy, in the loo constantly, dehydrated, have self-diagnosed kidney infection as get a lot of them and my kidney hurts. Am treating that with anti-biotics - GP gives me a stash to keep at home rather than pester him every two minutes for them.

Usually v well controlled - A1c always between 5.5 and 6.1 ish.

Good idea re 111 - will try that...

Am I feeling more unwell than usual, they ask?! Do I have any symptoms? Well, given that I've told them I've been over 30 solidly for three days....?

OK, so once I spoke to a clinician was more helpful - will have a GP call within the hour and possibly a booked appointment with them.

Thanks for the suggestion!
