I know that we are exempt from VAT on diabetic products but I have no idea how this works and have not been able to find any info on this and I'm about to start buying test strips.

What is covered by the VAT exemption?

Do we just say we have diabetes and someone takes it off at the till, do wo have to pay and reclaim or is there a certificate...?

How does it work?

Thanks.

Well... what excitement and consernation I caused in Cox and Robinson, quite the adventure.

I asked for the price, then I asked for the price with the VAT off. The assistant (who has worked there for a while) just smiled at me, I don't think she thought I was serious. She tried to charge me the full price, and I said I was VAT exempt as I was diabetic. She looked at me suspiciously and I suggested that there might be a form to fill in. She didn't have a clue what to do and eventually asked the pharmacist, who produced the form and she returned to me.

This was when I had it confirmed how bad most people are at filling in forms. She was struggling so I suggested that I would fill in my name - which has an unusual spelling. I read the form and completed the parts I was supposed to complete. She wrote something on it and then said I'd signed the wrong part. I told her that I hadn't and pointed out that she'd fillied her part in incorrectly

However, I didn't pay the full price and I took my packet of strips home as I didn't have enough with the meter the get me to my GP appointment :D I don't think that many people do this VAT thing...
