Hi! I've had type 1 diabetes for about 20 years and been vegan for nearly 2 years. I've never really had any issues with eating vegan alongside diabetes but was just curious on other peoples experiences (happy to hear about experiences from anyone with any type of diabetes).

How do you feel eating plant based affects your diabetes? Or if anyone has been trying Veganuary please share your experiences

I've been eating a vegan diet since 2001, having been diagnosed in 1961. During those two periods (without taking into consideration changes in insulin sources and other factors like CGM), I find that my overall control has improved. I take a daily dose of approx 12u of Humalog and 6 units of Levemir. I hope this might help you.

My late wife was Vegan. We ate Vegan all the time. Thing about meat tainting cutlery, crockery and pans. I had no problem with the food - meat is mainly protein and fats. However, getting sufficient protein is a bit difficult - we found mushrooms and fungi good. But it is worth getting familiar with Vegan cookbooks where various menus are given to help. We used to have milk, cheese and yogurts. But strict vegans will reject dairy. Good luck.

Im not vegan or vegetarian but I’m sure that with the dedication and commitment a vegan lifestyle entails then anyone making this lifestyle choice will be doing this as a matter of course

Modern insulins are both Kosher & vegan..
