Very disappointed

After 4.5 years of high Bg readings (118 to 155 --top limit should be 110) and not a word said by my GP I had a 159 and she took notice. Ordered another test which was 139. She said she thought I had diabetes and straight off prescribed Eucreas tablets at half dosage for some reason.

So I decided to try diet and exercise. Bought an exercise bike.

Results were good at first. 27/Sep --Bg 159, 30/Oct --Bg 139. 15/Nov 139. 27/Nov --120. 9/Dec --114.

I also lost about 10 pounds. Today my Bg was 112 and I have lost no more weight in the last 10 days.

Nothing is different now from the beginning of the "new regime" so why has my Bg and weight stopped falling.

Anyone have any idea? Please.

By the way I have cut all bread except Ryvita, (but a quarter slice of toast),all rice (but I had a pot of precooked brown rice) all pastry, all pasta, all potato ( but I had half a hash brown and 5 medium french fries) and all self administered sugar. No cakes no puddings. There is nothing I can cut without dying of starvation !!!.

Very very disappointing.

What have you got to feel disappointed about, you have successfully managed through exercise to lower your blood glucose levels as well as your overall body weight, and with your knowledge on the types of foods that you are choosing to eat you are well on the way to taking total control of your Type 2 diabetes and being the master of it.
The choice of diet and exercise are already showing you the way to go, so continuing with this approach should have many long term benifits to you and your health.
Regular exercise is most benificial in helping control diabetes, but it takes time to bring body weight down and dosen't happen overnight, but once it drops it tends to level off somewhat and is that much more difficult to lower further, but continue with regular sensible exercise and you can do it.

try not to get upset, you could have a nice steak, fried onions large portion of fresh cabbage or broccoli, some cauliflower and cooked celery, with some fresh butter on the top, dont go daft, finish off with some frozen rasberries and a sugar free jelly and some yogurt, not a lot of carbs in that lot.enjoy :D

Congratulations, things are working quite normally. Everyone loses weight and then hits a plateau. As you lose weight, simply walking around requires less energy, so you reach an equilibrium. Although a guide states that a man may need for example 2250 cals per day, someone who weighs 150 Kg may require 3500 cals per day. If he goes on a 2250 cal per day diet, he is effectively expending more calories than he is consuming and will lose weight. However, as he becomes lighter, he needs less to move his body mass around and eventually he stops losing weight. At this point he really needs to eat less and start increasing activity. It gets harder and harder but at least, you have seen the benefits so you should be more motivated. Even if you stay as you are, things are better than they were.

Most of the weight lost initially is water. You cannot expect to lose weight overnight. It is a long term thing. About 1lb a week is probably the norm for healthy weight loss.

As others have said, look on the bright side...you have brought your blood sugars down. This automatically lowers your risk of inflammatory illnesses etc

Thank you all very much -very encouraging.
That all makes sense. I got so used to losing a pound a day as I did at one stage that a stall has got to me. The lack of progress on the reduction of BG is annoying though. It tumbled to start with and now it is slow progress.
My first ever session on the bike was abandoned after 400 metres cos I thought I was going to collapse.!!! And that was tension 3 of 8.
Now after 5 weeks I rattle off 6 Kilometres at setting 3, 4, and 5. (2 of each). It seems to have stopped making me gasp for breath and I no longer need to stop my heart getting its coat and leaving. I must try setting 8 one day after I've checked my life insurance.
I'm going to introduce you to my toes in another post.

Many thanks.
