Ate shredded wheat almond milk a banana and tea no sugar at all . I eat healthy lost weight wasnt even over weight .just took another reading its gone up to 27.4 . Whats going on i dont feel unwell just very upset and confused . Ive been taking 180mg gliclazide morning and night for the past 3 days 5mg Linagliptin morning and 500mg metmorfin . Im also on fluxotine anti depressants.
Very frustrating any advise please .

Hi @Don66 Usually on here people who get readings over 20 and feeling unwell are advised to get medical help urgently, which would be the case with your reading of 27.4.
If your gp surgery isn't open on Saturday you should get to A&E if you start feeling unwell. You could ring the NHS advice line on 111 to ask if you need to get to A&E.

The shredded wheat and banana are high carb and would have raised your bg. If you can do some exercise, even going up and down stairs it should lower the bg.

If you have qualms about going to A&E then I strongly advise that you ring the NHS Advice line on 111. Please do it now.

Hi Don66. As already mentioned both shredded wheat and bananas are very high carb. Each oblong biscuit is around 25g each as is a medium banana so you’ve had more than 75g in a very short space of time. I’d have had exactly same reaction. My body just can’t cope with carbs so I try and stick to 20g of carbs a DAY. Definitely worth calling 111. Best of luck x

Thank you for reply defiantly going to stop the carbs . I will eat no carbs this afternoon and see how next reading will be .

Thank you so much for advise x

Thank you

You may not be aware of this and I do not wish to alarm you but with a reading so high, whichever type of Diabetes you have, you risk DKA. Please do not wait, take another reading just to rule out dodgy strips and then ring the NHS Advice line. You will not be wasting their time, it is what they are there for.

Hi @Don66 ,

Welcome to the forum. With a BG that high, it can affect mood. (Make one feel a little crabby.)
Are you able to check for keytones?

You would not be wasting anyone's time by ringing the NHS helpline. (111)

Could you be type 1? I think a trip to a&e is the order of the day. You may be at risk of DKA which is very serious.

Your profile says type 2 but to put it bluntly you may be type 1, I seen the other day you were recently diagnosed on a post you did. My uncle was type 2, 2 weeks later he was type 1, he had similar blood sugar readings, Hope you get it sorted. Type 1 is misdiagnosed a lot, I don't want to alarm you or anything but it is best you know for certain so ring a health care professional, I was taken to hospital with blood sugars of 28.6mmol/L and diagnosed type 1 immedietely.

Best wishes Don66, well done for calling the ambulance.

I remember seeking advise on here when my levels went up to 30 and my GP said:"That's not high".. i'm LADA, slow onset T1.

Thinking of you.
