Very Low-Carb Diet Plans

why? Fat isn’t the issue unless you mean sugar filled drinks

That is indeed what I meant. And I personally find it really hard to watch people eating pasta, rice, bread, potatoes etc. without joining in. They are calling to me.

I never liked them much anyway so I hear nothing. I don’t think I ever ate a lot of carbs though compared to many in here.

Unfortunately I love potatoes & fresh bread, especially if the bread is with good cheese! Chocolate - especially dark chocolate - speaks to me as well.

Ah now cheese and dark chocolate I get. But they don’t do the damage the carbs do luckily

Thanks for that Ian I have been looking for plans but most are not free so I'm sure that just checking the amounts of carbs in foods is all I need to keep an eye on.

Do you know when checking carbs in foods is it just the amount that sugars you count?

Thanks

No, it’s the figure for carbs, which will include sugars. My fitness pal works well for most things. Don’t rely on the sugars figure quoted on the front of any packet, as this doesn’t include other carbs.

Don’t rely on my fitness pal either.

Many of the entries are done by users and are inaccurate. Eg they are USA based and include fibre in carb counts (they call that total carbs) or are uk based and still deducting fibre (to get what the USA call net carbs) when they shouldn’t be because the uk listings have already done that etc etc.

Enter the data yourself or use the packets.

Speaking from my own experience, I decided that I wouldn’t worry about the carbs from green veg, if minimise how much root veg I was eating, cut out potatoes and cut out all processed carbs…bread, pastry, pasta, rice. What was left was meat, dairy, salad stuff and green veg and the less sweet fruits. Eating like this for 3 months put me in remission and I eat very well. I.E a steak with creamy sauce, fried mushrooms and salad, roast chicken with all the veg except potatoes. There’s a really easy and very satisfying cheese sauce that is literally a knob of butter, some cream, heat it up till just under boiling point, as seasoning and grated cheese and stir. Tastes even better than a char sauce made with flour!

@Hezzal, did you lose weight eating this way?

I added intermittent fasting, eating one meal a day …either evening or mid afternoon. It sounds really drastic I know, but once the carbs are eliminated there are NO cravings or ‘low blood sugar’ wobbles, because you’re no longer experiencing the post carb highs and plunges. I do feel hungry.. but it’s just a feeling and soon passes… and my meals are always very tasty and very satisfying. I lost 3 stone in the first four months and felt more energetic than I had in years…

I've eaten a similar type of diet to @Hezzal since I was diagnosed with T2 over 9 years ago. I reduced my glucose levels to pre-diabetic levels within three months and have kept them there, and in the same time period I also lost about 20 kilos without actually trying, though my GP had advised me that I should lose some weight. I usually eat well under 50g carbs a day, and can skip meals without being hungry - fats keep my hunger at bay. I don't use any special low carb or "keto" type diet plans, but sometimes use and would definitely recommend Diet Doctor for recipe ideas,

Thanks a lot Gillian
