hi guys since being told i was a type 1 diabetic i have been having serious leg pains, my legs are throbbing around my calf's and my ankles and thighs i am taking on scripts fae the doctors co codymal and ibuprofen which just won't shift the pain :?

i work as a plasterer during the week which is hard enough and as soon as i am off my legs they flair up and swell around the joints there is so much discomfort that i have been laid up in my bed all weekend the thing is am back to work the morra and the cycle will start again and i don,t think i will cope with the pain another week and tbh i dont think the doctors fully understand the pain i am in

wit am askin is there any 1 on this forum that has had the same symptoms as me or has had bad nerve damage due to muscle wastage that came from me having diabetes

yours gary hughes

Hi Gary
My T1 husband has severe periferal neuropathy and cannot feel his feet. He now wears flight socks, which keep swelling under control. It's worth a try
alternatively the trouble may not be diabetes related. Get it checked

Hi Gary,
A couple of questions if you don't mind me asking?
this leg pain in your calf's is it a continus pain or comes and goes?
do you have any sort of chest or pain that is half way up your back?
this leg pain does it cause you to kick out?
Sounds weird questions, but there is a reason behind them, honest there is! I have been here myself!

hi folks thanks for your replies currently i am on lantus and apidra as i don,t take any pills for my diabetes
the doctors say that it will take months to reverse the damage but i am struggling daily with the pains as for the pain in general its like a throbbing pain that is constantly there and seams to be getting worse its keeping me up at night so lack of sleep is an issue aswell

i also have tryed amitriiptyline pills with no help at all i have seen 4 doctors who all seem to say the same thing (it will take time) but i really need to get on with my daily work and i can,t see this happening if this gets worse than it currenty is :(

i dont have chest pains but i do have other areas on my body which are numb or very sensitive to touch

my blood level is still high as i am still adjusting being a diabetic today i have a average of under 8mmol but my control is much better during the week any thing between 5mmol and 8mmol as its only been 5 weeks since i first got told i was type 1

Hi Gary,
You sound like you have what i have in the legs it is called restless legs, it causes aches in my legs, all the way up to hip! my feet ankles knees get swollen!
I find that amtriptyline, dry's my mouth out, also it can make me have restless night's!It does sound like restless leg's! you need to ask your doctor about this! There are a couple of tests that they can do!
I also find if i don't drink anything i get very dozy or restless legs! i also get very dehydrated as well!

i does sound the same i will need too say to the docs about this think i am going to stop the ama trampolines but here i come doctors :!:

I have had the restless legs for over 2 years now luckly my doctor noticed the signs when i told them about it! I am under a neuroligist for other conditions as well!
Luckly he saw what was going off with what i said about my leg's! see your gp and tell them about amtrytline,

tbh i think its the amitriptyline that is causing this 1 doctor says they are fine for nerve damage where another says no way i am now thinking they are making this worse
the diabetic doctor has put me on a vitamin B compound (iron deficiency ) but when i think back i believe it has gotten worse with the amitriptyline :!: so will try the things you have put too me and get back tae you all

and thanks very much gary hughes
