Very tight feet ankles and lower leg

Hi everyone.

I have been reading lots of your posts and can see that most of you are great people and very helpful..

I have been T2 for around 6yrs. Started with diet but haven't lost any weight. Then on to tablets. I am now on Insulin.

After a plane flight some time ago I noticed that my feet and ankles were swollen and very tight. This went down after a couple of days. It happened several times after flying and once felt so bad I went to A&E to get it checked for thrombosis. It was OK.

Since then I have had it without flying but it went down after a day or so. About 2 weeks ago it came back really bad. Swollen feet ankles and lower legs and even my knees hurt today and very tight particularly the ankles. I just keep expecting it to go away. It is really bothering me now. I will be flying in 4 weeks and really worried what might happen.

Has anyone had this before?

Thanks

Hi @loucoxx and welcome to the forum.

People who do long haul flights often find that this is a problem but it soon rights itself. It is unusual if you are doing flights of a short duration, (other parts of England or Europe) and you really need to see your Dr. as there are several things that this could be. We cannot diagnose but there may be other posters who have experienced this. The fact that you are still getting problems means you need expert advice.

The following article will explain the possible causes,

Please see your G.P. and let us know how you get on. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Hi Catherine

Thanks for your reply. The flights were short so I was surprised too. I don't think I would attempt a long haul any more. My GP gave me diuretics but I was already being treated for incontinence. I had just got that under control and of course the diuretics
started me off again so I had to stop them.

The article was interesting. Seems my doctor should not have prescribed anything until she was sure where the leaking was coming from. If the D2 has caused some damage to capillaries then thats where the problem may be. I do hope it is not permanent.

There has been a great deal of help offered to me from my surgery but I am not at all sure that I can rely on what I am being told. The NHS seem to have it all wrong. I know I must lose weight but all this emphasis on what or not to eat has resulted in me eating more. Oh dear what a mess x
